Who really gives a shit about Tuesday It’s about building some confidence mate. A convincing win and we go into the Derby game with desire, lose against Wigan and we go into Satdees game with the jitters, Jones panicking over his game plan and team selection. Tuesday is a crucial game imo. A very sensible point of view. As disappointed as I am about yesterday it was a much improved performance. I would however rest Butland and if possible play Etebo for Allan.

In his opinion his defenders are losing faith in him at present.

Who really gives a shit about Tuesday Nathan and his team do. He knows he is becoming part of his own bomb squad unless results change quickly.

We need a comment on Badou is he bomb squad or not? I think he will want out but it needs confirming so we can work on that basis?

Well, after just two league games they can't say any of the squad are tired, except maybe Etebo (might be too early for him)
New signings need time to get to know the others, so few changes from Saturday in my view.
Stick with Hogan and Gregory, start Duffy. If Etebo is fit then take Allen out and also find some way of keeping Clucas as far from the starting 11 as possible
Davies or Federici a no brainer for cup games
Davies
Smith Lindsay Baath Ward Etebo Woods Ince Duffy Hogan Gregory

Our fb's are not dominating the spaces as planned, whether that's because they're good enough to play this system or not, I don't know.
My thinking is that we play narrow with Etebo, Duffy & Powell to fix this.
Basically Powell goes up front.
Their combined technical ability could be the way to do this properly and successfully.

I would start the same side as today tbh. The team performed well bar the last 15 mins but I think with that team we take the game to Wigan get a result and use that as momentum against Derby. I mean I would understand if he wanted to give starts to players like Verlinden and Campbell but I think we need some level of consistency. Same team for both games barring no injuries. Powell on the bench with Ince in behind Gregory and Hogan again. Same here, we need some consistency and stop picking the team out of some sort of an abortion of a sorting hat. We played well, no fucker is going to play themselves into form after being dropped. Except Butland - needs a few weeks on the bench. "Some sort of an abortion of a sorting hat" hahahahaha. God willing I needed that after a tough two weeks of football and oatcaking

Surely you start with the same side unless you have a better option to try where something could have been better, to try and gel a team, to get consistency and only attempt small fixes to build on what was alright. Based on that stick with the same side, see how it goes and make substitutions when something not working as well as hoped on the day. what Jones did was take off Woods who was having a great game. Ince was doing well but seemed to be tiring at a time when we were dominant. Duffy for Ince surely. Once he screwed up it was panic and the more he tinkered the more he fucked up and the result is there for all to see. Same side, keep them playing together and change perhaps 1 or 2 at a time giving chances to subs when appropriate. I think he'll make a wholesale changes to assess players and then change back again for Derby and if we stay in EFL will do the same next round. Might be better to get knocked out and it will force him to make less changes. Surely he must have an idea on best 11 and have backup options if the 1st option doesn't work out? Otherwise wtf is he paid the big bucks for?

Put the kids out, we won't be winning any trophy just yet including this one. Those left behind need an sas course on winning!

I think he'll do some changes, but that he still takes the Carabao Cup seriously - even if priority is promotion of course.
I think Vokes will play. Perhaps introducing Davies in goal, or Federici.
I think we'll go through. I'm not that scared when I see Wigan's team. Even though they're good at home and beat Cardiff 3-2.

It's a good chance to see how some players who haven't featured so far perform:
Davies
Edwards Collins Lindsay Clucas
Ince Woods Etebo Verlinden
Hogan Gregory.
Not sure how you can make a diamond from that, maybe just go with a good old fashioned 4-4-2?

I’d play Butland v Wigan as I think that’ll create doubt instead of using federici or Davis like you normally would.
Then the team he believes to be the strongest

He'll want to give game time to a few of the late purchases, as well as those who missed matches for one reason or another. Davies, Edwards, Lindsey, McLean, CCV, Etebo, Duffy and Hogan will all make the starting XI. Not sure if he will steer away from diamond for this to allow Verlinden, Badou to come in to show their worth.

Davies Edwards - Collins - Cameron Vickers - Ward Woods Clucas Etebo Powell or Duffy if Powell is injured Gregory Hogan Which should be our league 11 moving forward if he sticks with the diamond So the reward for Ince scoring and being our best player is that he gets dropped!

I think you start with as close to the same outfield team from Saturday as possible, barring any niggles. I can see sense in taking a look at some fringe players but I think getting your first team used to playing competitive matches together takes precedence here. The only ones it might be tempting to bring in (imho) are Etebo, and Edwards and Powell (if fit) to assess them.
Jack can have no complaints at being dropped though, Cup game or not.

I'd be tempted to play Campbell, he's done well in these type of cup games. Definitely change the keeper, if the replacement plays well it's the perfect opportunity to quietly drop Butland from the League team for a bit.
Otherwise strongest team, whatever that might be....

Due to a number of very bitter experiences with this horrible football club and its truly odius supporters, Wigan Athletic are one of the very few football clubs where I will happily use the term; 'complete and utter hatred' to express my feelings for them.

Young Nathaniel needs to start winning some football matches pronto so we should put a strong team out.
Last thing we need is a fringe side getting a tonking.

Jones should play what he's considering to be his number one side.. that is if he's going stick with the diamond in the future.
That said he should also play 11 vs 11 in training against the U23 side until the every player is familiar with the system.
