Maybe dodging a bullet is a bit harsh. For me that was more to do with the price and we need to stay up this year so it could have been a bit of a gamble with Butlands form looking to head in the wrong direction. To bring it back on topic, there's a villa fan podcast called my old man, on there they play a game called the Scott Hogan touch count, which is exactly what it says. The fact its even a thing gives you some idea of what to expect from Hogan. And his debut seemed to live up to it. You spent 20 million on Tyrone pissing Mings! The concept of a reasonable price really shouldn’t register with you at this point. Worth every penny.

Hogan looks quick and incisive, very unlucky not to score and always in a good position in the box. That's good. Maybe he will turn it round with you. I just saw that he touched the ball 12 times and made 6 passes against charlton. That's what he is, just doesn't get into games.

There is more to a forwards game than touches, like movement and hogan moves well. In 2 games he has hit the woodwork both times

So when he isn't scoring, not making passes or touching the ball he is an absolute passenger.

Stoke fans: why did we keep Jack Butland, we should have sold him... Villa fan: we dodged a bullet there Stoke fans: No you didn't, you would have been lucky to have him you cheap skates It's like when a family member is acting up and you think the are being dickhead but then if someone else called them a dickhead you'd properly lose your shit

De gea has had his moments too but Man U stuck with him and wasn't he player of the season a season or two afterwards. Jack is a top keeper and his best years are ahead of him.

Showing all the signs of a player who gets on the end of things which is 100% what we need. He just needs to work the keeper harder than the woodwork. I hope he doesn't rue these misses in 6 games time. We all know how goals breed confidence. To be fair, the Wigan keeper actually saved the Hogan chance with his right foot.

He might be being a dickhead at the moment but he’s our dickhead and other fans aren’t allowed to say it 😂

Don't think I spotted that first time around. It was a cracking save. I hope he gets a goal quickly though to help him to settle into the squad.

Watching that again we really did create some cracking chances, Vokes should've had 2 before half time.

Sorry, but that’s bollocks. You have paid nearly double his actual worth. It is nonsense. We have over paid but he was still worth every penny It was vital we kept our core from last season and the boost given by signing a player who became a cult hero in just a few months is priceless. He is also good enough to play at prem level. We had to pay that amount to get him and for me it was a no brainer.

I'm not sure signing Heaton and saving £18 million is fucking up. As i said above I really wanted Butland. No offence mate but that’s like saying you didn’t fuck up by not signing Andy Robertson as you’ve signed Taggart and saved a fortune Villa’s call but we’ll see If we'd sold Jack for 25 mill and replaced him with Heaton for 8 I honestly think we'd have got the best of the deal.

The choice was pay that amount or not sign him. For the reasons I said, it was important we signed him. So it was a lot of money but for all the things he brings to us it was worth every penny.

Hopefully we have a small fee to pay as a clause to buy him in the loan agreement. Could have gone for an over inflated gayle in massive wages and a short shelf life. For their many recent faults the club have made the right decision here, imo

They overpaid at the time as he was decent but untested at the very top level. He has since proved himself to be worth every penny
