Roy goes for 72, enterprising innings and one badly needed. He'll be annoyed with how he got out too.

Leach gone as well now, hopefully we've got a fully formed backbone today and don't fold. Root turning up and remembering how to bat would be nice.

Bairstow has been on a pretty significant decline since 2016, another shocker today.
Out of nowhere, we're bang in trouble yet again.

Bairstow looks garbage, couldn’t lay bat on Adair who is at best a county trundler.
We’re effectively 6 down now with Ali at the crease. We need to scrape our lead up to 200 somehow.

The trouble with England is that no matter what the conditions are like, a collapse is never far away. I'll bet Starc and Cummins can't wait till next week.

Is Joe Root taking the piss?! His last 3 innings including the world cup final have been nothing short of disastrous.

Awful from Root, wafty drive outside the off stump.
I don't get it, Leach made 92 runs leaving anything wide of a 4th stump line. You do that often enough they put one on your body and you tuck it away and get looser and looser. The ball is moving minimally at low speeds, but yet again we're in dire need of our all rounders to pull 80 runs plus from somewhere.

I wonder what odds the England players got on Ireland to win?

Moeen Ali is turning into a terrible cricketer. Looks to have gone in all formats doesn't he? Sadly so, think it's 2 years without an ODI 50 now and in tests he can't buy a run. T20 we have better options out there.

With Buttler, Stokes and Archer coming back into the team, I wonder who will be making way.
Probably Stone (for Archer), Ali (for Stokes) and either Burns or Deny for Butter. Although you could make a case for dropping Bairstow and Woakes.

Ireland's to lose now, absolutely pathetic.
If we do somehow contrive to win this game, I don't want to see smiles or jokes.

It's lucky Curran can bat, actually, he has the technique and talent to be a very good/reliable batsman.

Potentially vital knock from Curran, if they can eek it up to 190-200 we might be ok given the weather and scoreboard pressure. Should never have been this close.

Going off for potential rain... wtf? I think the concern is the potential lightning, risk for the players I guess. Happened at the Oval in 05 and then within 5 mins lightning was hitting the gas holder.

Although you could make a case for dropping Bairstow and Woakes. I think it will be Stokes for Woakes, Buttler for Burns although that would mean Root having to bat at No.3 and Anderson for one of the spinners. Archer could replace Stone but it would be a risk to play both him and Anderson after their injuries. There is also an argument for playing Foakes for Bairstow but I don't think they will do that.
