Frightening another talent tipped as a future leader..... The Shadow Business Secretary no less. Doesn't know the difference between profit, revenue and income.

It'll make the Hillsborough justice fight look like a walk in the park. But you are correct Labour councils have been aware for a long time. What do you think was in it for Labour councils to keep so quiet about the industrial scale abuse going on under their watch?

Frightening another talent tipped as a future leader..... Good for Labour on this policy. What’s wrong with having multi nationals pay tax due in this country. I don’t get your beef with this policy.

Oh I know it's all about votes but it will be kicked into the long grass. I can't think of anything that's happened on this scale that hasn't led to a public inquiry. I'm struggling to think of anything that's happened on this scale full stop. I suppose if they have a different town every year and close speech down because it might prejudice the trials.... oh wait

I'm assuming it's a sums thing. £14 billion tax raid might equate to the total sales of the 3 companies involved although I believe the last Labour government with a similar nature to this one had a tax rate of 97% and in one quirky circumstance that rose to 102% so she might not have got her sums wrong. Also it was pointed out to her that there is a distinction between sales and profit that she might not have grasped. In theory those £14 billion worth of sales could possibly be negated by £15 billion worth of cost of sales and expenses.

It would be a shame if Labour’s poor maths were to take away attention from what I think is a long overdue action - tax on place of purchase. Whatever the value is, it is significant. It’s not just Amazon, but Apple, Netflix and, if I recall correctly the likes of Starbucks.

It's about Rebecca Wrong-daily, the shadow business secretary not knowing how tax is collected from Companies, she's suggesting it's on turnover when it's on profit.

I've no idea why they don't hit the purchase tax button unless it's something to do with the EU. A lot of these companies are based in countries like Ireland, Luxembourg and Holland and presumably the equivalent corporation tax being paid on profits somewhere down the line at a lower rate otherwise it would be paid here.

Ebay is based in Luxembourg isn't it? Starbucks don't make much profit in the UK because of the high price of their coffee beans which they buy from Starbucks Coffee Co in Switzerland. Starbucks

She can't do the sums. In any other sector this person/ company/ Party would be laughed out of the boardroom. If this had been Boris it would have been front page news.

Isn't VAT a purchase tax , payable on hot food and all drinks except water. . .?

As Northy and felonious point out she is quoted sales when profits are paid on corporation tax and also a reminder I am sure we have uk companies bringing profits back to the uk to be taxed so I doubt it would actually work.

Regional Boards are the elected bodies tasked with ensuring fairness and due process in key internal procedures including appeals on local government selections and disciplinary cases. In the case of London they are also responsible for oversight of the shortlisting of candidates to the Greater London Assembly (GLA), and Parliamentary selections.
