That's going to cause chaos. I noticed last week that the underside has been painted in a nice shade of red.

Any good reason or shall we get our pitch forks out first?

Any good reason or shall we get our pitch forks out first? 3 puts is already building a guillotine, no need for pitch forks. How old is the bridge about 30 years if it was built around the garden festival time? It would need regular checks and maintenance, but all things would deteriorate and have faults, it does take a lot of traffic.

No, it's a fair bit younger than the Garden Festival, I reckon it was mid '90's.

I would expect all bridges are checked at regular intervals thus any signs of deterioration could be rectified before any tragic concesuences. There was a bridge collapse not long ago with tragic consequences I hope that never happens again. I have just crossed the tallest bridge in Europe and didn't dare think about what if?

looks like there's a problem with an expansion bolt which connects both lanes together waiting for an expert to look into it

A quick squirt of no nails should do the job.

Agreed, the Oldbury viaduct is a prime example, undergoing a huge programme of works currently, but I seem remember two separate periods (without the present disruption,) when they were working on the supports below,('concrete cancer?') or something like that.

A quick squirt of no nails should do the job. That gorilla stuff 100% would do it, unlike the adhesive strips that supposedly stick pictures on the wall, total crap.

Im pretty sure it was up for the festival - seem to remember going over it in the pit van before I could drive and looking into the festival site?! They changed the road layout for the Garden Festival as you used to be able to take a right turn coming out of Etruria Vale Road whereas now you are forced to turn left onto the dual carriageway. It's possible that they built it at the same time as Festival Park around 1989, but I'm still sure it's later than that. It certainly was not built at the same time as the dual carriageway being built as the flyover was put in to deal with the through traffic at the round-a-bout.

Late eighties this was built, can recall John Evington on Signal talking about 'the two flyover construction sites', as Hanford was being built at the same time.

Anyone who has had to do any business with the council will not be surprised that it's still closed. Six weeks now. It could be: A)staff off sick or on holiday B)elf and safety paperwork C)complicated distribution of brown envelopes containing our council tax or contractor's cash D)jobsworths avoiding any sort of responsibility or decision making

I was speaking to someone last week chasing up a particular council section after 8 weeks who was told that the person dealing with the matter had been on holiday for two weeks. Who cares it's only the public, they don't operate in the real world and efficiency, what's that?

I have to deal with councils in my job every so often.
It frequently takes almost two months to even get an E-mail from them.
It’ll be shut until 2020, minimum.

I was working in Summer Holidays whilst at Uni and remember the bridge slides being put in place. I finished Uni in 1988 so it would be around that time, possibly a year later for final completion.

I have to deal with the council too in one of my jobs and I think it's fair to say that they are fucking hopeless.
That flyover closure is causing chaos between 4 and 6 in the late afternoon.
It should have been sorted by now.
