I dont know about Knightsbridge but I know the picture of the flooded bridge the Mayor tweeted out as proof of needing to do more about climate change failed to mention the ahem "traffic calming mesaures" to protect pedestrians on footpaths partially block drains.

Pretty good speech by young Greta yesterday… Hard to disagree with her “blah, blah, blah” assessment of our political leaders. That said, I didn’t hear much in the way of practical solutions. Just a bunch of whining really. Along with some Paddington Bear stares. But that’s fair enough, she’s just a wean. A spoilt child conducting herself like a spoilt child. Looking forward though to welcoming her to Glasgow in a few weeks, assuming she can make her way over in a beautiful pea-green boat. She might find a little too much blah, blah, blah for her liking. Mind you, I’m sure there will be plenty of other spoilt kids visiting for her to get down with. Maybe they’ll all meet up in the McDonalds in Finnieston for a vegan burger. They'll have their iPhones lit up taking selfies and Tweeting away no doubt I'm guessing they won't be messaging each other via carrier pigeon either....

I take it she hasn't seen the large windfarms all around our coasts and on land, the investment in massive new ones and investment in using the clean sea windfarm power to look at separating hydrogen from sea water etc. our coal fired power stations now shut down etc. etc.

Because they're a bunch of lying self obsessed arseholes. As suggested in the article, they'll be looking to dumb the bill down to the point that it's effectively nothing short of pathetic in terms of tackling climate change.... before marketing it as best for Britain and an improved bill decided on by a 'sovereign' nation. "Only the government can answer that question, but No10 sources are claiming it is because the government wants “a good Bill rather than getting a Bill which is sorted by Cop”. The real reason for delay We believe these comments are just a smokescreen for the government’s real reasons for delaying the bill, which amount to a reluctance to accept changes to the core governance framework in the bill. If one examines the other amendments that have passed, none cover new issues: they have been the subject of many parliamentary briefings, recommendations and reports, and they have been debated and discussed for years"

People trying to get the Royal family to rewild some of their estates which are basically grouse moors. Prince Charles allowing 2500 houses to be built on some of his land near Faversham in Kent, how much land does this fooker have, its everywhere, I wonder how much that went for.

It is interesting that Nat West choose to "remove “Nuclear” and “Energy from Waste” from its CSFF inclusion criteria, and not count these ventures towards its £100bn pledge."Whereas France and Hungary want to persuade the EU that nuclear power should be " actively supported by the European Union". Along with other east European states they have asked " the European Commission to stop hindering nuclear power and consider ways of bringing atomic energy into the EU’s green finance rule book". Germany and Austria are opposed to nuclear power. It will be interesting to see now that Merkel is on the way out whether France gets its way with the EU. The politicisation of nuclear has sucked IMO. Really got in the way of things. It might just be too expensive but we might have to swallow the cost if we want reliable power.

I left the Liberal Party in the 80s because of its anti nuclear policy, and the miss-information it was propagating. It is not "green" and not strictly carbon neutral as it creates massive CO2 release due to its huge construction, but thereafter is neutral. I consider it a necessary evil to supply the basic energy need when the sun doesn't shine or wind blow, to supplement geothermal and wave/hydro power. Gas has a role to meet peak demand but we need carbon capture to "neutralise" it. The other point about nuclear power is that I see nuclear fission as a stepping stone to nuclear fusion in future centuries.

Looks like good news! Meanwhile the US is struggling to do anything because every single republican senator and a single democrat have decided to say "fuck you" to everyone young and all future generations. The one democrat basically owns a coal company. They just need a single republican to support the wellbeing of the future and it would pass. One out of 50 is all it would take.

To answer my own question earlier this month it looks like the Environment Bill will be passed this week: bills.parliament.uk/bills/2593/stages/15775With this, the budget, COP26 starting, it looks like a momentous week ahead. There are plenty of posters attacking the government for ineptitude but no one could accuse them of inactivity.

A special mention here for Newcastle MP Aaron Bell who has apparently done sterling work in helping the "Stop the Stink" campaign at Whalley's Quarry and who, along with the rest of the sheep who purport to be Tory MP's has voted for this bill which, among other things would allow water companies to pump raw sewage into rivers.
