My girlfriend at the time was always lathered up over him, so I grew my sideburns like his so she would become more interested, ah well! Still the best Stoke side we have ever had, great, great memories. Still don't really forgive him for the FA cup semi final miss at Villa Park though.

Had the pleasure of watching Jimmy many times, when the ball dropped near him, you knew a volley was coming, just like pulling the trigger - bang! and rarely if ever over the stands, usually in the back of the net. Brilliant.

As iconic and sexy as a supermodel, and the exoticness of his name added to the allure. I was always irked when the papers mis-spelled it as "Greenhough".

Hey, sportsman, can you say hello to him for all of us on here? I would love to have met him. Any idea if he reads these posts? Watched it again last night on the tele. Sublime footballer. You can never get tired of watching him. I was telling my grandson about him yesterday, and am hoping to get him to watch this vid. The grandson is very good at football, and he seems to love playing

Jimmy was the true "Golden One" Sorry. Not wanting to bring discourse onto this most friendly of threads, but Steino is, was and always will be 'The Golden One'. Jimmy is welcome to every other accolade and tribute rightly paid to him.

Always had a real problem deciding who my second favourite Stoke player is (second you ask? Of course, Banksy will always be first, naturally).
For me it is a real toss up between Greenhoff and Hudson; the former for his goals, the latter for the breath taking skills.

Banksy is my all time Stoke hero and same as you its a toss up between Greenhoff and Hudson even though I didn't see a lot of Hudson in his first stint at the club where,as my Owd Man says, he was the best player in England.

Really upset when he was sold to the shit. Especially when it was for so little. When he eventually played at the end of his career I went to see him play for the unwashed. He scored a volley on the edge of the area where the Ball was passed to him direct from a corner. Class. Apologies to everyone for going to the Vale.

I remember my Dad telling me about Greenhoff on the way down to my first ever Stoke game, he scored in that match, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was against???
From that point onwards, he was my hero, I was absolutely crushed when I heard he was sold!!!

I remember Greenhoff and half a dozen other players - Ritchie, Marsh, Smith, Conroy Mahoney, at a Stoke on Trent youth cup final at Northwood playing fields in 1970. I was 12 at the time. All the players stood around on the 4 rows of terracing, laughing and chatting to all the kids and fans, signing autographs etc. It was a great experience to meet my heroes, who were humble and genuinely enjoying mixing with us. Out of all the players Jimmy stood out as a nice bloke. I got the autographs, but unfortunately have got lost over the years. Happy birthday Jimmy Greenhoff, one of the most gifted players of his generation.

Yes. You can have all these fancy dan teams, but that was the team for me. Love them all. Irrespective of what's gone on since, they were the happiest days of my life. Memories, oh! the memories.
