The Crown Hotel? Always found it decent. You're not thinking of The Crown and Anchor? 'Ang on, 'ang on........... if the Crown & Anchor is the one on a corner at the top of the town in Stone I went there for lunch a couple of years ago and it was absolutely excellent in every respect. The food & service were top-notch. A very pleasant Portuguese chap was the proprietor, although I didn't think to ask him to teach me any Portuguese swear words (a la EEFC). It had great decor in muted colours and looked quite newly-done. I think they'd had a bad fire there - maybe the roof??? - perhaps 6 or 7 years ago, but I'm only guessing at these times. I do recommend it for a visit if anyone's considering it. Absolutely Murph the Crown and Anchor is absolutely top notch. I thought Mary was being serious and I know that the Crown Hotel was excellent back in the day.
Have you been to Granvilles for food recently. Limited menu but very decent quality and a rather nice garden out at the back. The Italian down the High Street is very good as well.

We know! The blue & white plaque is there on the house, for all to see. They're usually just lettering, but this one includes an unusual ornamentation of a little stick man, running. And being 'followed' by a stick German Shepherd. Many years ago I was at a nice party with a fair few friends who'd done well for themselves. The question of "where were you born" came up. One of my friends who's mother was evacuated out of Southampton during the war gave a winning smile and told everyone it gave him the opportunity of being born in an Edward Lutyens house. I said I can do better than that, the house I was living in at that very moment was boarded up Oh, mate...... I hope things have improved for you now. Murph xxxx

I got 1 card (out of 3 children) and a belt, which looks nothing like the one I hinted at getting. Miserable little fookers.

Both my children came to visit me. I saw very little of them. I spent most of the day in A&E with my 90 year old father, who had fallen,

Mrs Q & I don't have any kids so I wasn't expecting anything. But I got a card from the doggies, a giant tube (stick? prism?) of toblerone and a bottle of port. Clever little bu99ers they are. They can open cupboard doors, jars & bottles (all without leaving any evidence of teeth marks) but I never knew they could work a credit card.
Today I have a hangover from the port and no skin on the roof of my mouth thanks to the giant toblerone chunks. It was worth it, though.
P.S. the bl00dy fish didn't get me anything. Ungrateful sods.

My daughter offered to caddy for me at Carden Park, which she loves as she gets chance to drive a golf buggy around for a few hours. Bit of a win-win.
