I take it you’ve played alongside him in defence, been a member of the squad, been there in the dressing room, he’s represented you with the club. If not you haven’t got a clue, and I suggest you let his 5th manager make the decision. Oh, okay Mr Shawcross (senior)!!! For your information, it's "MY" opinion about him, you got yours, I've got mine, I'll respect yours, you respect mine!!! All I said was that I didn't rate him as a captain, and I don't, I think Batth would make a far better captain!!! History to-date says his managers have (had) a different opinion. I’ll bow to their knowledge on the basis of them working with someone on a daily basis. As in life circumstances change, who knows what this forthcoming season holds for the Captaincy of the club.

When a goal gets conceded Ryan’s head goes straight down to the floor you need someone to rally. I think Ryan would have been a even better player if he hadn’t of had the pressure of captaincy As posted previously History to-date says his managers have (had) a different opinion. I’ll bow to their knowledge on the basis of them working with someone on a daily basis. As in life circumstances change, who knows what this forthcoming season holds for the Captaincy of the club.

Remember that time when Ryan wasn't on the pitch and we had to rely on a 17 year old lad to show a bit of leadership? Remember that time we had Shawcross on and his head was the first to drop when we conceded. Remember how he only ever plays well when he has an actual leader next to him. Garbage captain and quiet as a mouse.

Average footballer and too slow, hard too have a captain who’ll be making constant errors.

Assumed you would know as you seem certain that he’ll be making constant errors. Just wondered if you knew how many that would be. Are you suggesting that Einstein would know?

You’re wasting your time in posting a reply to such people who either don’t want to, or aren’t capable of considering the “big” picture (including factual information) before posting unsubstantiated or illogical comment. I’ve just ensured the tin hat is on and secure.

Average footballer and too slow, hard too have a captain who’ll be making constant errors. Over 400 professional games, many in the EPL and he's an average footballer. That’s a logical opinion thanks for sharing it.

Anybody else remember Hughes' first two seasons, where the defence was only held together by Ryan coaching the players alongside him, Geoff Cameron and Marc Wilson, through every single game? There were no problems with his captaincy then.

Shawcross is decent and no doubt can still do a job but as captain I think it needs to go to someone else. Unfortunately shawcross captained us the last couple of yrs in the PL and last yr, and we have a losing mentality, so if we are all aiming to change the mentality of the club and team we need a fresh look on stuff. For me this means a new captain who will have a different mentality. Not sure who, nor overly concerned who it is as long as the decision is fresh and new and the guy wants to take the team forward with the best attitude. Actually if Arter signs give it to him - passionate, aggressive, protective, decent. He also captained us for the previous successful 8 seasons in the premiership.

That’s my opinion, I would much rather see us with a centre half with pace, good distribution a decent on the ball, Ryan unfortunately lacks in all of those

Yes he did, but we have had a losing mentality for the last 3 yrs and unfortunately he captained us through that. I think when u have had that mentality for so long it needs changing, hence new captain. Some one fresh and new to bring something positive rather than RS who brings along negativity not purposely but it’s more or less ingrained due to the last few yrs Let’s not forget the club has been poisonous for around 3 to 4 yrs so for me the more changes the better I like RS but think a new leader will heighten a fresh start, which after the last few shit years it’s needed!!!!

And for those 8 seasons the team was packed with Captains, Glen, Huth,SJW etc.. And Ryan was considered the leader of those players by two experienced managers. And just look where we are now ? After the side was systematically stripped of Ryan’s trusted lieutenants the fighting spirit and dressing room unity had gone, and we end a disastrous season in 16th position by default, I know that you can’t blame all this on Ryan’s captaincy, after all he missed a chunk of the season by being dropped for his lack of form and to save him from the fans ridicule ! Who really wanted to see a Stoke hero constantly being out manoeuvred by journeymen strikers out to take the piss of a Premier League mainstay ?
