My wife's family are all Blackburn fans and they are quite bemused that we are linked with Raya, distinctly average in their opinion. I wouldn’t worry mate We’ve got fucking idiots on here who think the same about Butland
I spoke too a couple of Barnsley fans at work about Adam Davies. Both had the same opinion about him. He had a great season for them 2018-2029.. But the season before he was a bit hit and miss.. This could be due to him growing older and learning his trade. Personally i think Adam Davies will be a great addition to Stoke's squad. Jack wants a move back to the Premiership, and no one can blame him. Adam Davies will see us as a step up the ladder. Bigger club, better crowds, better training facilities, great media exposure to improve his career propects and better wages. Plus we can expect a good price for Jack who has a history of injury problems. Get Adam Davies in now and along with the squad clear out and some fresh faces i can see next season being a good one. It is all about Nathan Jones putting his stamp on the squad and improving this squad's performances based on the previous four seasons disastrous under achievements. What’s Jack’s ‘History of injury problems’ then?

I wasn't arguing that point. boothenender specifically said 'his history of injury problems' - plural. Implying that he is injury prone. He isn't. I was just arguing that one freak injury albeit a long term one doesn't constitute a history of problems. And if the club had diagnosed it properly it would have been nowhere near as long anyway. Whether the injury affected his form is a different argument and not one boothenender was putting forward. And I would argue that there is evidence this season that he is gradually getting back to the form he was displaying prior to his injury anyway.

I think the big thing that's being looked over is the small fact that when Jack came back, he was behind a defence that didn't do him any favours, and I think that knocked his confidence for a while. Even the best keepers would be jittery behind the likes of Wimmer last season. Still think he didn't do too much wrong last season and has looked to have regained his confidence since about November time.

I'm a bit nervous if this is the proposed replacement for Butland.
Barnsley fans I'm in contact through work don't rate him much at all and are praying Stoke will come in for him.

Wonder if this thread will surpass the "Josh Tymon to sign tomorrow" thread that ran all summer couple of years ago?

It's often only made up of the top teams, obviously, they have good players or else they wouldn't be where they are in the league but there are often many players who are overlooked due to simply where they are in the league. I'm pretty certain Jack would've been in the Championship team of the year if we weren't so low in the table, for example.

If he does join us I'll judge him on his performances for us, not what's happened before or what their fans say.
Derby fans took the piss when we signed Lee Grant, and he had arguably one of the best seasons we've ever seen a keeper have.

I work with a Man City fan that hates Mahrez and labels Guardiola a Plan A merchant.
All bets are off in the present climate.

Doesnt look like he holds the ball well. Also the defence seems to have him covered a lot of the time.

He might not even be coming in as no. 1., he could just be Haggrid's (sic) replacement. Perhaps we are going for someone else more high profile and costly for no. 1?

Tbf he is out of contract so it makes no difference if we go in for him or now he probably won’t be at barnsley next season. I hope we get him - from what ive seen of him I must admit i like him and at 26 he has plenty of time to improve

I'd think they are stuck with him now unless they take a big hit on his transfer fee or do a straight swap for Butland and he agrees £10k a week haha.

I tend to treat the opinions of other clubs' fans with the same scepticism as the opinions on here. Our own posters can have umpteen different views on any player suggested as a possible signing so won't place much reliance on the views of random fans of whose judgement I know nothing.

He seems good but surely we need another keeper as back up in case he's not?
He's had one good season in League One and Federici is average at best.
It's a big ask of him to make the step up and not have a safety net.

It's a big ask of him to make the step up and not have a safety net. It's #1 with Barnsley in the Championship or #2 with Stoke in the Championship then? Pretty sure if he does sign for us, it will be for the #1 spot. Young and supposed unproven keepers have been doing just fine in this league for a while now. Davies Federici #3 no idea, I think we released 2 young keepers?

We did. We still have Bursik but he's a proper flapper. He's nowhere near ready.

Could we sign an emergency keeper deal? This could be a way of keeping costs down and allowing good potential players to have a route into the first team.

I don’t think the third choice is very likely to play which again is why I wouldn’t particularly want him for that role. He needs more game time. I’d be happy with Federici not playing.
