Not really he’s the 3rd best keeper at the club , hence not in the squad

Not really he’s the 3rd best keeper at the club , hence not in the squad But he was clearly bought as our new No.1, had other Championship offers including remaining as captain of Barnsley - and is being paid £1m-a-year. And he can't dislodge Adam Federici from our bench. That is a little bit odd

That is a little bit odd I don’t think he was tbh , bought in because he was on a free, if Jack left I think we would have been after better than Fed or Davies We'll never know what he was promised. But I'd be a bit surprised if he left Barnsley and turned down other Championship offers to sit on our bench. It's possible - but when the Sentinel broke the story, they certainly seemed to give the impression he was coming in as prospective No.1 - and presumably as he is a Beswicks client, Spinksy has got a direct line to his agent? Interesting to see how it develops over the season www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-butland-2839761Stoke City are weighing up a move for Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies sooner rather than later, The Sentinel understands.
Stoke are keen to sign the 26 year-old Welsh international as a long-term replacement for Jack Butland. But they may have to make their move before Butland leaves because of mounting interest in Davies. Wolves have shown an interest, but probably as a number two, while Stoke stand alongside Championship rivals Birmingham City, Hull City Bristol City and Brentford as interested parties.
Stoke’s goalkeeping coach Andy Quy is understood to be a major mover for Davies after being impressed when watching him this season.
Quy’s own reputation after working successfully alongside Asmir Begovic and then Butland is believed to be a major consideration for Davies.

Had a poor pre season didn't he. That combined with Butland staying means he'll be sent out on loan I'd guess. Suppose it's possible. Won't most L1 teams have an established No.1 though. Hard for aloanee just to walk in somewhere. He'll be gutted though. He's basically thrown away at least a year of his career. It was a silly signing though wasn't it. It was clear nobody was going to meet the 20m asking price for Butland. He looks a very dodgy keeper too.

Old Coatesy must be wondering how he's going to break it to Denise that the boys have wasted yet more of the family silver !

“He’s a Welsh international. We’ve got two very, very good keepers here. We want three so we have fierce competition.
“To bring that third keeper in – and not third choice, but third keeper – we needed to make sure that we maintained the standards but also added hunger, the ones that want to do well and want to push people – and Adam ticked those boxes.
“We watched him plenty of times. I watched him plenty of times, having been in the same league as him for the first few months of the season.
“He was the best keeper in League One so we believe he can make the transition to being a top keeper in the Championship.”
Hmmm...

It does seem odd, sounds like more or less they told him Butland was going and when he hasnt may have kicked up a fuss who knows

Hamstring problem according to KnotFM He was the keeper in the PFA League 1 team of the year which is chosen by the pros in that league which suggests a pretty good keeper which tallies with what my Barnsley contacts have said. At the time my assumption was the same as Martin S. that he was brought in as Jacks replacement. I shall be interested to see who is in nets on Tuesday

I think he's got the cups at the moment, with Fed backing up all competitions.

Doesn't the fact he can't dislodge Federeci tell you he wasn't brought in to be number 1? He clearly was brought in as number 1 but like I say he has a very poor pre season and maybe Jones realised he can't trust him. Have said this before, but a poor pre-season is a harsh reason to banish him from the squad altogether. I'm not aware Fed got any games during pre-season, so what comparison is NJ making to make Fed No. 2 instead? What mistakes did Davies actually make during pre-season? Were they really that bad?? Either way, he was voted best keeper in League 1 and would have been No 1 had he stayed at Barnsley. Think it would have been only fair to allow him to go back on loan to Barnsley once it became apparent Jack was staying, which I'm sure we must've known even before deadline day.

Hard to really work out, and translate, what any of that manager-speak actually means in relation to why he is not in front of Federici, isn't it?
