Is this in any way linked to the departure of Mark Cartwright? As in he championed him, and the club think he's wank? Pretty much. Blunt, but pretty much. Maybe it's as simple as Butland can't be sold for the mega money that the project promised at it's inception, given he was the first player to be bought by it, and that's the straw that broke the camels back. Who knows, because we certainly won't. All guesswork.

Maybe we're looking to loan him out if we can't sell Butland, so keeping him out of the firing line (as much as being a substitute keeper can be considered as being in the firing line).
Just chucking it out there in the absence of any other possible reason.

I don't think Jones was impressed with him pre season, he made a couple of silly mistakes that cost us goals.

Fuuuuuuuuuucking hell. Good job Butland hasn't gone anywhere then as we could well have been looking at Federici in nets.

Does beg the question of was Davies a Jones signing or was he purchased for him by the powers that be?!

Does beg the question of was Davies a Jones signing or was he purchased for him by the powers that be?! Is it important that we know? It is a question only a few can answer - and they won't - so why torture yourself wondering?

It is a question only a few can answer - and they won't - so why torture yourself wondering? Certainly not torturing myself about it but it could well explain a few things. Scholes always makes out it's the manager who has the final say on signings & Hughes for eg has had alot of stick concerning Jese, Wimmer, Choupo & Berahino etc coming in but perhaps his hands were tied all along. Theres enough talk on here about money being wasted on signings & players wages that's now coming back to haunt us, just intrigued to know how the club actually operates when it comes to transfers.. Could also explain the deep politics that Rowett had to contend with during his short spell with us. Maybe a plausible reason why Davies is currently appearing to be 3rd choice but does seem strange if Jones was behind bringing him in why he's not 2nd choice at least

Expect him to go out on loan if Butland stays, as expected. Bursik as no.3.

I don't get the conspiracy on this one. Jones will have seen plenty of Davies and he was voted league keeper of the year. One mistake in the Lincoln game doesn't make him shit or Jones doesn't rate him. He's been at pains to say they are all his signings. Being dropped may be good for him

How the hell can we sign a new keeper, on decent wages you'd imagine, only to make him third choice?
What the hell is this club playing at?

Nothing whatsoever surprises me anymore what this club are capable of, expect the worst and they’ll surpass it. No doubt there was serious interest in Butland, or we presumed there would be and we jumped the gun, signed Davies and well we are where we are. Bit like buying a house without selling yours first, it’ll come back and bite you in the arse.

And why do we go into a new season with James McClean at full back? Why is our biggest signing for a position that was probably our strongest last season? Why do I drink my own urine? Fuck knows. We're Stoke, we're mad as fuck and we do it anyway!

How the hell can we sign a new keeper, on decent wages you'd imagine, only to make him third choice? What the hell is this club playing at? Reading the original Spinksy article, 2 things jump out. 1. How decisive Andy Quy seemed to be in the pick 2 - how pissed off he'll be at turning down this rival interest to end up with his career down Shit Creek here if Butland doesn't go in the next 48 hrs. 2 possibilities - he's not actually very good or he's (maybe understandably) sulking a bit? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-news-butland-2839761Stoke City are weighing up a move for Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies sooner rather than later, The Sentinel understands.
Stoke are keen to sign the 26 year-old Welsh international as a long-term replacement for Jack Butland. But they may have to make their move before Butland leaves because of mounting interest in Davies. Wolves have shown an interest, but probably as a number two, while Stoke stand alongside Championship rivals Birmingham City, Hull City Bristol City and Brentford as interested parties.
Stoke’s goalkeeping coach Andy Quy is understood to be a major mover for Davies after being impressed when watching him this season.
Quy’s own reputation after working successfully alongside Asmir Begovic and then Butland is believed to be a major consideration for Davies.

It makes you wonder if he was a bona fide Jones choice or one that the outgoing TD identified as one of a few options that Jones had to have the final say on, with Davies being the best of a 'poor choice'? There's a reason Cartwright has gone, even if we'll never find out.

Hard for aloanee just to walk in somewhere. He'll be gutted though. He's basically thrown away at least a year of his career.
