Sorry Lord 1. There were at least three Brighton players (including the Goalkeeper) who should have been booked for time wasting prior to the penalty being taken. 2. The penalty should have been retaken because two Brighton players (including the guy who tackled CA) had encroached significantly into the area prior to CA taking the penalty. 3. The goalkeeper did move. But that was common practice and consistently allowed by referees The referee was extremely poor in managing the taking of the penalty and yet wasn’t challenged at the time by Stoke players, or after the game by the Manager which to me was unbelievable. Check out the video on you tube. There’s no doubt whatsoever about points 1 and 2 Whether or not there should have been a 2nd penalty is debatable/one of those things. CA was tackled from behind so I suppose in the eyes of the law it was. Water under the bridge now but it still rankles with me Ok will buy all that All the same never seen a second penalty given as a result of a foul after first penalty saved. Adam got,and gets slaughtered, for not scoring from the rebound when in fact he was denied by Dunk foul. Saw in the NASL and a game in Portugal not long back. Rarely happens as you say

We've got people making excuses for a professional footballer losing a 6 yard race after a 4 yard head start.

If Adam was anywhere near fit he would have slotted in the rebound no bother. He had the ability to run that league last season. Why wasn't he selected?

Had we have scored that penalty we'd have been on 27 points. That could have been what we needed to get that one last win and stay up. We'd have moved out of the bottom 3 as well had we have won, which would have put immense pressure on Southampton and Huddersfield.
The confidence boost would have been amazing for the squad. Instead, we had pathetic squabbling and Adam having to get his own way. He misses and ends the season there and then.

Adam gets a free pass because he went on 5 live and told supporters what they wanted to hear about certain players letting the team down.
Facts are he was as complicit as the rest of the useless tossers. In fact more so, he actually played games.

Facts are he was as complicit as the rest of the useless tossers. In fact more so, he actually played games. Those interviews (Adam and Glen Johnson) confirmed to me that several of the 'Good old British footballers' side of our squad were a bunch of arrogant cunts who demolished our squad with their hatred of the foreign players. The foreign players may well have done what was mentioned in the interviews, but for CA and GJ to go on the radio and put so much blame on players who weren't here, whilst they themselves put in performances worthy of contract termination, was an absolute joke. We were rotten to the core, British players included. The two little factions were both petty and arrogant, and both deserve to be vilified.

Was Charlie's any worse than Jack chucking it in his own net at Leicester?
Very few players if any came out of that season with an ounce of credit yet we all know the real problems ran much deeper than the players.

They desperately need somebody to blame for relegation mate Relegation was a massive culmination in things but apparently it was Charlie missing a penalty that ultimately really relegated us I wouldn’t bother

Leagues aren't won or lost on individual matches, missed pens might cost you a cup but not a league.

We’ve been on a downhill slope for years now so all in all we’re rightfully where we are, problem is we still haven’t learned in a so called inferior league, paying massive fees for shite players, paying wages for players we can’t give away but we have the all conquering diamond formation coming to save us all

I'll always be convinced that if the penalty had gone in we'd have stayed up. I'm tempted to say that if we'd not been given the penalty in the first place we'd probably have had a reasonable chance.
The psychological blow of missing the penalty brought about the nearest thing to a death hush I can ever remember at Stoke. I didn't think we were doomed at 1-1 with 2 minutes to go, but I knew we were in the shit when the penalty was missed.
For all that, I can't see why Charlie shouldn't have taken the penalty. He'd never missed one for us, and given the choice of him or Jesé taking it, I'd have given it to Charlie every time.
The only difference I can think of between that penalty and all the others he'd taken was that there was an utterly detestable wanker making an exhibition of himself before the kick could be taken. Not in the least distracting, I'm sure.

It's not that Adam directly sent us down (although he personally cost us 2 points with the worst follow up to a penalty ever seen, and got sent off for the most ridiculous, arsehole challenges in a must win game I've ever seen, 10 yards outside the opposition box) but the fact he is so obviously trying to shift blame onto others, when the fact is that he has been utter dog shite for us since 2015.
Arrogance and shifting blame. Shyster.

What a load of bollocks. If we had beaten anybody that we drew against we would have had more points. If we had drawn 2 other games that we lost we would have had more points. 38 games in a season, not 1. Are you seriously suggesting other players didn't make any mistakes all through the season? Everybody else had an error-free season I suppose! Only one mistake in the season and that cost us??? There were 11 games after the Brighton game, we won 1. If we had won all of them we probably would have been in Europe, but we didn't because Charlie Adam destroyed everybody's confidence.

I maintain now, and I forever will, Jese scores that peno. I didn't say no one else made mistakes! But that penalty finished us off. Lots on this forum and at the ground at the time said the same as me, that we were fucked after that. Win that game, we'd have stayed up. We only beat Swansea because the pressure was off and it was all done and dusted the week before. Unfortunately it seems we will have to agree to disagree on this one though.
