Coming from the Chell, the Northern end of the city I've related more to Manchester than Birmingham.....am I right in thinking that those to the south of our city relate more to Birmingham ( when I say " relate" clearly there's no need for us Potters to " relate" to anywhere but what I'm trying to say/ ask is.... of those 2 cities that we are sandwiched between do people tend towards one rather than the other?... Liverpool seems also to be an attraction for our youngsters). As others have alluded to in the EE it seems to me that everything is not hunky dory in Birmingham ( nor Manchester) www.birminghammail.co.uk/?utm_source=birmingham_mail_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=tLink37&utm_campaign=daily_newsletter

Growing up in Fegg Hayes it was always Crossroads and Midlands/Central news as my cultural compass points. Me cousins in Kidsgrove were the Granada-ites.
As a teenager and on it was Manchester music and Afflecks Palace, the Hac and that which provided the map reference.
Never bothered me whether we were in either metropolis's shadow, always tried to adopt the 'we are Stoke' attitude.... Manchester has always been an easier/shorter drive over t'hills, back road through Macc. Etc.

Thankfully we have so far managed to avoid the serious gang violence and gun crime that plague both cities.
Long may we stay isolated I say!!

I was from the southside of the city and would have never related myself to Birmingham.
Grew up going to pubs and clubs in Manchester and worked there too.

I've usually gravitated to Manchester. I can't say I identify as anything other than Stoke though

Stoke has always been more aligned with Liverpool/Manchester culturally than it has with Birmingham/the Midlands... But we're still our own island within an island & hate every fucker equally.

Manchester all the way for me but I've had a few nights out in Birmingham and have been impressed. Last one was to the Symphony Hall a few years back, cracking venue.

As I recall we may have shared some affiliations with the natural world, but that is part of growing up in Fair Gaze. I'm not really a dog man either.

I think parts of Birmingham are not far behind parts of London / Jesus mate that's shocking. Was it a fatal shooting? I don't know Bianco. What gets me.....it may be an " isolated" incident, as may be a stabbing BUT , the more and more it seems to be happening, the more we become in fear of crime and it becomes the norm AND it is hard in my opinion to deny that " things/ the trend are/is getting worse" ....what direction are we going in? Are we leaving our children with a better world?
