Pete Doherty's sobered up now (I would say "cleaned up" but he still looks like he needs a bath). Big fan of the Libertines and I enjoyed Babyshambles too. Seen the Libs twice, Babyshambles three times and Doherty solo twice. Part of his appeal is that he's actually quite funny and intelligent too, I think he seemed to become a cliché and started taking drugs in the first place because it was the rock and roll thing to do; so although there's nothing original in his drug use, it was still in pursuit of danger and he has the personality I was on about in my earlier post. Certainly in the earlier years of his career he had a mint, intimate relationship with fans (gigs in his house etc, so never considered himself as separate and inaccessible like most musicians are). Very distinctive music too. Not to everyone's taste but definitely recognisable, so to me yes, he fits the bill as a proper rock star. I don't know whether you've seen this clip but he's running rings around Andrew Neil. Fantastic one liner about the Bataclan gig.

I’m not underestimating him I just dont think he’s anywhere near what is called a rock star. And taking copious amounts of smack doesn’t make you a rock star, if it did then Steve Tyler and Al jourgensen top the list by a country mile He's not my favourite artist by a long shot but he's talented, gets the publicity through his antics, doesn't give a shit and there's no doubt him bagging a top rated bird. He's bright, his performance with Andrew Neil was a joy. Neil was clueless that he was being ripped. He’s not ‘ripping’ anything. At best it’s debunking. Stop exaggerating💋

Tries too hard to be cool and his recent stuff is shit. As for modern day ones, there's not many. That's not to say there's no decent bands, there's loads - I think it's easy to underestimate how professional bands on the circuit have to be these days as that's an artists main source of income these days, with festivals providing a large chunk of their bookings. If you don't turn up, cancel through illness or turn up pissed or drugged up you're unlikely to get many future bookings.

The best rock star. Stories of excess are not loutish behaviour such as Gallagher . Keith moons biography was a great read genuinely eccentric and funny anecdotes . I still find the TV out of the bedroom window story very funny . His next door neighbour Oliver Reed and moon had some epic encounters Moon biting Steve McQueen’s dog takes some beating though 😂 His penchant for blowing up toilets makes me chuckle....

Stones apes. Did they get a copyright strike for this?

Moon the Loon, biography by his minder/buddy/carer was a bgood read. There was a story about him having co-ordinated adrenalin shots in his lags by Peace corps medical students half way through a gig. Philmore I think. Unless this was one and the same. 1973 Cow Palace...
"In November 1973, Scot Halpin, a 19-year-old kid, scalped tickets to The Who concert in San Francisco, California. Little did he know that he'd wind up playing drums for the band that night -- that his name would end up etched in the annals of rock 'n' roll.
The Who came to California with its album Quadrophenia topping the charts. But despite that, Keith Moon, the band's drummer, had a case of the nerves. It was, after all, their first show on American soil in two years. When Moon vomited before the concert, he ended up taking some tranquillizers to calm down. The drugs worked all too well, not least because the tranquillizers actually ended up being PCP. During the show, Moon's drumming became sloppy and slow, writes his biographer Tony Fletcher. Then, halfway through "Won't Get Fooled Again," he slumped onto his drums. Moon was out cold. (See it all happen above.) As the roadies tried to bring him back to form, The Who played as a trio. The drummer returned, but only briefly and collapsed again, this time heading off to the hospital to get his stomach pumped."

They're all so clean living now. Interesting that at the height of the Gallaghers fame Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan had his near death drugs experience. Someone you'd never have thought would have ended up in that state. From synth pop boy band frontman to a hard drinking and drug taking impersonator of Jesus! (Love the Mode by the way)

Silly Hick The Jet was called " Lisa Marie" I don't think that he was jealous of anyone as far as I know. But then again ,who is perfect? He had little need to be. But then again , no need for me to defend him.... although most who knew him say what a decent human being he was. Plant genuinely liked him. Obviously you don't have to like him , but the personal stuff is irrelevant really. I do know that most of the rock stars of the 60s pointed to Elvis as their inspiration.

Each of us will face death, for many it won't be great. Not really relevant to Elvis's contribution to rock. He was totally anti drugs....I think he had a good point.... unfortunately the " drugs" that he was on were legally prescribed... different world then... I think that he thought they were wrong. Why are you so bothered about his personal stuff...most rock stars don't stand up well to close scrutiny ...but things like Elvis's generosity are well known. Here's a tribute from a few who knew something. Being a Christian yourself you might appreciate Elvis's inclusion of gospel music in his performances...some mean feat.

I think to be fair to Elvis, the CIA were heavily involved in the inception of 'pop culture'. It would have been unusual for a successful artist not to have links/a hand up etc from the CIA. Most had 'handlers', Loog-Oldham, Epstein included. Hollywood, writers, artists etc. the fear of Reds under the beds etc. meant the State was heavily involved. {See Jimi H & Jim M.}

I would class the Gallaghers as Rock Stars in the classic sense. Hardly think trying to be obnoxious whilst surrounded by minders is very out there.
Was a good comment by Roger Daltrey on Top Gear where he basically says that accountants run the music business now and that artists were free to do what they wanted back then although it didn't always work out for the best.
There was a story where after a tour of America that Keith Moon got paid £12 after expenses due to his trail of destruction. Doesn't happen now, all Twitter, award ceremonies and gold studded I Phones
