Apart from Stokies singing Delilah the best rendition is the Red Army Choir and Sensational Alex Harvey Band. I saw the latter do this at the Vic when SAHB was Support act to Yes in 75. There used to be YouTube footage of Red Army Choir but Conner find it.

Jus checked the trentham date it would have been 1971 , interestingly they played The Place and stoke college of art in 1969 kings hall in 1970 . The 75 gig was listed as Victoria ground but I'm sure that's a typo

YES, SAHB, Ace, and Gryphon - ticket price was £2.50 ! As has been said it absolutely tipped it down. The stage was set up in front of the Boothen End facing the Stoke End. If I remember correctly there was a fight on the pitch which the Sentinel reported was between some Scottish SAHB fans and some the local lads. YES cut short their set due to the rain soaking their instruments - not a good idea playing electric guitars in the rain.

When the tragedy happened a couple of weeks before a replacement band had to be found , it was an up. And coming band Called. The Faces featuring Rod Stewart , not too shabby

It was at the time when many football grounds were opening up to gigs and concerts during close season to make money I guess. The Who played at Charlton Athletic and few years later Rod Stewart played at Home Park down here in Plymouth.

The only reason it seemed odd lawry was by this time yes were considered a supergroup and too big for Vicky hall. I'd left stoke by 75 so couldn't remember that particular gig . Anyway weren't those days great all the top bands constantly touring, stoke firmly on the calendar of most tours . I remember hardly a month went by without a concert somewhere

If anything, Alex had provoked it by mentioning the England/Scotland clash at Wembley that afternoon. He did however call them 'c***s* for fighting at one of his gigs and threatened to jump into the crowd to kick f*** out of them (the irony of which did make us all laugh at the time) I have an audio recording of the SAHB set and the moment in question is captured for posterity here...
