They've pretty much got to give him the job but long-term not sure he's the man. Would be better off with Poch.

Why the electrician at OT a cowboy or somthing? 😀 He took the job to keep the seat warm. On a wave of post Mourinho euphoria he's done really well in Europe and domestically they are playing with a swagger not seen for a long time. They were basking in a honeymoon period basking in the departure of miserable Mourinho. But now he has to have a long term plan in place. He has to explain to Pogba why he wants to keep him and why he's better off there. And haggle with the board to get Bale back from Real Madrid when he'd be the ultimate statement for Spurs. And no longer the temporary baby faced assassin the media will be more demanding. It's a different job now.

You might not like it but you know he's referring to Southend.

Just shows you don't have to be a tactical genius to manage a big club with top players.
The guy is a bang average club manager

As long as he fucks up royally, I think it's a great appointment. The media love-in is going to be understated and measured I would think...

It seems a very odd decision to me, at this stage at least anyway. He's been appointed on a very small sample size of matches, in which he had admittedly greatly improved Man United's results and performances. But in the last few fixtures, he has been tactically outclassed especially by Espirito Santo in the FA Cup game at Molineux. He's not really settled on a style or a formation but has kind of jumped from system to system, which when you have players like Pogba and Rashford you can afford to do as at least initially, their innate quality will be enough. But when these systems are pinned down, they have been ruthlessly exposed first by Emery (a renowned tactician and analyst) and by Santo. For it to work in the long term, he's got to show more tactical nous moving forward.

Solskjaer forced the board's hand really.
With the results he's had, the upturn in players attitudes, the whole mood around the club has apparently lifted according to numerous reports.
There would have been hell up from the fans had he not been given the job.
Good luck to him, as the OP stated he seems a really nice guy.

Glad they've given it to him rather than a Poch or a Zidane.
The wheels are already coming off after a series of fixtures against, let's be honest, the Premier League lesser lights and a blatant pick-pocketing in Paris.

Just shows you don't have to be a tactical genius to manage a big club with top players. The guy is a bang average club manager It doesn’t show that at all. He’s done nothing with them yet, and will continue to do nothing with them for the foreseeable until he quietly departs to make way for a “tactical genius” more suited to the magnitude of the job in a year or two’s time.

He's done enough to get the job, more than enough. Gareth Southgate is another example, look at him go as England manager, he's league 1 standard club manager

The guy is a bang average club manager See Cardiff He's managed more than Cardiff, who were a troubled club when OGS was there. He was an immense success for Molde. I know they don't register very high on most people's radar, but he took a mid-table team and turned them into champions. There's only so much you can do in that part of the world - and he did all that. But will he be able to challenge Citeh and the other team. Not at once, it could take several years.

I'm really not sure. A lot is going to depend on how realistic expectations are of him. Will they be happy to finish top four every year for the next 5 seasons and win a cup every now and then or is winning the league an ultimate demand, or else. I say 5 seasons, partly because that's realistic before they can form a really great team, and partly because that was of course what Fergie was given. If OGS is still able to keep OT a happy place, he might just be given that.

I can’t see him getting that amount of time without having them at least looking capable of mounting a genuine title challenge. It will be interesting to see how he and the players react when the honeymoon is over. He’s got 3-4 tricky league games left including the derby - it’s not inconceivable that the narrative might look a bit different come May.
