We seem to be in the clear don't we? In the early national news reports on the story and in the national press we were called out along with Man City and of course Crewe. However it seems our interactions with Mr. Bennell were minimal and unofficial and since we are no longer in the Premier League we don't exist at all in the eyes of the press and consequently we have blipped off the radar altogether so far as this sorry story goes. Can't see any charges against him in his time with us- was he at Stoke very long does anyone know? Are accusations in Florida, Man City and Crewe which might explain no mention of Stoke. Nice to not be making headlines on this one Thanks for the response, good to know we don't appear to be involved.

I doubt this comes directly from Crewe. This is more likely to be the position of their insurers and Crewe will not be in a financial position to pay any damages if they do not follow their insurers lead. The insurers will say whether or not the case is to be defended and rightly or wrongly Crewe will take any criticism for the insurers decision. Out of interest, can you actually take out insurance against an employee sexually abusing children? I'm not asking because I need it, I hasten to add.... It would probably come under the public liabilty section of the insurance.

This is one of the most shocking things I have ever read. - www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/03/andy-woodward-barry-bennell-cousin-mothers-sister-murderedThat, however, tells only part of the story. Andy’s older sister, Lynda – named after their aunt – had been dating his abuser for the previous two years. The wedding took place in 1991 and Andy had to go through the hellish ordeal of seeing the man who had exploited, controlled and abused him for years becoming his brother-in-law.
Photographs from the day show the church filled with Bennell’s young victims, all living their own secrets. Andy, I note, is not smiling on any of the pictures. Bennell is though. “I remember him grinning at me when he walked down the aisle to say his vows with my sister. He had it all … and here he was, getting away with it. Celebrating a wedding? For him, it was a celebration of his power over everyone there.”
It was 1994 when the truth emerged and Bennell was sent to prison for seven years for raping a 13-year-old boy on a tour to Florida. What nobody had ever done was make the connection between the two men – one dead, another in prison – who had shattered Andy’s family and the fact they had the same surnames. Until, that is, the police pieced it all together. And this, I suppose, is possibly the most shocking part of this entire story. Barry Bennell and Ronald Bennell were cousins, separated by two years. One a cold-blooded murderer, the other described by the police among the worst paedophiles, numbers-wise, in UK criminal history.
“[Barry] Bennell would have known what his cousin did, I’m 100% sure,” Andy says, and for the first time there is a crack of emotion in his voice. “I can only think he took some kind of twisted pleasure out of it: knowing what we didn’t. He even took me to where his cousin lived, visiting his auntie and uncle – Ronald’s mum and dad. There was a picture on the wall of a young man with dark hair and I remember this old couple kept referring to ‘Ronnie’. I didn’t know who he was, or why he wasn’t there. But I know now that the face on the wall was Ronald Bennell.”

Wouldn’t it just be easier for them admit they had a scumbag work for them who used their name and reputation for his gains in abusing children and they are disgusted that the club did not act in the children in their academies best interests under previous management and chief executives. I think a bit more respect and sympathy for Crewe as a football club would come their way, as it is with the stance they are taking and the belief that they are absent of blame I don’t think I’m alone in saying I hope they are taken to court by the victims sued for record damages and have to fold as a football club 🖕to them. Is gradi still there?

It could be seen as obvious but only now we know. Why is it Alex Fergie and Kenny Dalglish both, at roughly the same time, set up huge youth development projects. But,neither approached Gradi to work for them. This is despite Gradi being known as one of the country's leading youth coaches. Similarly, in the last 40 years there's been much said and examined regarding FA initiatives on youth development but Gradi's name was never put forward. Why? Did somebody know something about his behaviour? Since his coaching credentials became known (which is a long time ago now) hundreds of managers have been sacked but Gradi has never been proposed as a replacement for any of them. Gradi has managed during the football media saturation boom. Despite being respected throughout the game he never did any punditry. He might've been offered it and he refused but none? Why is it his coaching abilities earned him an MBE yet he remained an unfathomable character? What did he gain by his isolation?

The punditry is easy to answer if you ever heard 5 seconds of an interview with him..... Having worked in Crewe and with a few of their fans there was never any rumours of him being involved although they openly spoke about him not being the marrying kind as the sun used to say. None of the players who have come forward have said anything about him, the big question is if he knew what was going on, when the same players say opposing teams used to call them the paedo team and such like on a regular basis and members of the board were informed by parents, a guy who personally used to get a share of the profits from players sold it really is bad luck he knew nothing....
