Sharing a platform with active Republicans whilst British Soldiers were being murdered by them is just one of the reasons I couldn't vote Labour. Not forgetting Diane Abbott- "A defeat for the British state is a victory for all of us." Not the kind of rhetoric you want from people who have designs on governing the country. In fact, surely it's unprecedented anywhere to have a main Opposition party where key members have made such comments about their own country. The Labour Party is full of people who hate this Country. That's their main motivation. See David Lammy.

Would Nando's appoint a vegan MD? š EDIT: by 'they' I mean Labour in it's current incarnation

Interesting article. Any knowledge of the republican and loyalist cases?

No, it was something related to the Troubles. Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams will not be prosecuted in connection with the IRA murder of Belfast mother-of-ten Jean McConville, prosecutors said today.
Northern Ireland's Public Prosecution Service (PPS) said Mr Adams and six others, among them Sinn Fein's northern chairman Bobby Storey, will not face charges over the 1972 murder.
The PPS made the announcement after reviewing police files on the seven individuals reported to them by detectives investigating the widow's killing.
Seems a nice chap no wonder Corbyn is attracted to him
That's the case, yes. Cheers.

Interesting article. Any knowledge of the republican and loyalist cases? I believe one may be the case of John Downey, he was acquitted in 2014 from the Hyde Park bombing because he had written assurance from the British Government no less, granting him amnesty for that particular incident. His current trial will be regarding the deaths of two UDR soldiers in Enniskillen in 1972. He was recently extradited from the Republic to Northern Ireland at the request of the aforementioned Public Prosecution Service.

Well I served 5 tours in Northern Ireland. I can tell anyone who never served this. When riots start they are organised by the IRA, they put women and children in the front and start with throwing stones, bricks rocks, eventually this crowd becomes larger and larger to the point as a soldier stood with his riot shield for protection is now caught up in complete mayhem.
At first we would not react as all we can see are women and children, but behind them (like all cowards hiding behind women and children) are grown men preparing petrol bombs. There were a number of tactics used by the IRA in these circumstances:
1. We would be forced into a situation near flats were they would bombard us with furniture (yes fridges, cookers) falling from great heights onto us causing panic
2. They would throw unlite petrol bombs at us covering us in petrol until eventually the lite ones come and you can now imagine the mayhem as our uniforms started to melt on our legs as we are now covered in petrol this would be followed by some arsehole now shooting at us from areas unknown.
These riots were uncrontolled mayhem causing panic amongst 18 year olds in my case I was 20 in 1982 in Londonderry. Now some fuckling lawyer in a warm office with some ex murdering scumbag of women and children want to prosecute the likes of me for trying to prevent them from murdering innocent civilians, which they did so many times not just in NI but in Holland, Germany and UK. I can only imagine 1972 being 10 times worse than 1982.
Finally ask the 20 year old lad from 1982 how he feels today aged 57 in 2019 worrying if he and his buddies are in for their final years in a cell for simply ptrotecting innocent people from vile savages. People died it was horrendous on both sides, but remember this The IRA and INLA have walked free for their atrocities whilst the likes of me may face a prison cell for serving my country exemplary for 22 years.
Dont judge me until you have walked in my boots. A good friend of mine died in 1986 blown to pieces in Crossmaglen murdered by the IRA he was 24 his wife gave birth to his daughter 2 days later. Where is hers and his justice. His crime, he joned the British Army and was sent to NI with me (again) to serve and protect the good people of NI. I live with the loss of 27 friends in 22 years service, whether through NI, Afghan, Iraq or Bosnia or accidents and suicides. Now we have to see who will or will not be prosecuted. What a world we live in.
My advice to any young man, do not join the Armed Forces. UK is the only Western Civiliased country that is prepared to send you to illegal wars then prosecute you for going. Politicians are vile as the terrorists we fought.
Finally the report some of you have read on Bloody Sunday is actually not accurate as the first shot fired was by a certain Martin McGuinness a murderer of fantastic proportions.

its only right that whoever killed the reporter should face the same consequences as him? Beings as "Murder is murder" Spot on Samba - my argument exactly. It's strange how the soldier/s must be prosecuted yet the "terrorists" (for that IS what they are) are literally up in arms about any of their murdering scum being prosecuted. They can't have it just how they want it. After all Bliar gave these murdering bastards a letter as part of the Good Friday Agreement yet here we are years later now preparing to charge a soldier for his part in the same conflict. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/feb/27/ira-letters-good-friday-agreement-northern-irelandJust a little extract: Sinn FĆ©in were adamant the 187 men on the run would be given amnesty as many had influence in the republican movement
Like any peace deal bringing to end decades of conflict the Good Friday agreement of 1998 in Ireland was a historic compromise that provided gain and pain for both sides. The support of the IRA and loyalist terror groups for the peace deal was secured by granting their prisoners early release from the top security Maze prison. In total 428 paramilitaries, including 143 prisoners serving life sentences for murder including some of the worst atrocities in the Troubles, were given early release from the Maze between 1998 and 2000.
But for Sinn FĆ©in, one issue remained: the fate of the so-called "on the runs", the 187 fugitives still wanted for offences committed during the troubles. The reason Sinn FĆ©in was so adamant the fugitives should get such assurances is that many of them have influence within the wider republican movement.A deal between the party and Tony Blair's government was reached and fugitives began receiving the secret "get out of jail letters" I wonder what the extenuating circumstances (or "excuse" in plain everyday language) will be to stop somebody (hopefully) eventually being charged for the murder of the journalist, whilst the soldier (scapegoat !) is charged and presumably will be sentenced ?

So is all the fannying and blarting stopped now that its clear that criminals from all sides, are being pursued? See the post above referring to 187 Labour letters. Are they now being pursued? Are the other terrorists currently being prosecuted being given the same amount of publicity? The trials after the freedom granted by the GFA is inherently unfair because whilst the British Army kept records that are available unfortunately Adams and McGuiness and co didn't keep such copious records therefore the information available to the courts may not be as generous as that provided by the British state. When Jezzer's mate Jerry is arrested it will be time to think that the process is fair.
There's an interesting post above by Lowlands which covers the situation soldiers now find themselves in.

More anti-British output by The Independent. Perhaps they could run a similar article on other EU member states and their colonial past- maybe starting with Belgium and their genocide of the Congolese?

I thought the country had started to move on from where some thought it was ok to voice the opinion that the military were thugs and murderers, sadly it seems itās on the rise. Itās a pity the first line of defence for soldiers in any conflict isnāt the people who slag them off being lined up in front of the enemy to take the first rounds...then maybe they would appreciate just what the military do for the country without question.

Half the stuff he posts is bollocks and born out of bitterness towards the MOD and other veterans charities. Iām not saying he doesnāt raise the odd valid point but itās wheat through the chaff. Mercer actually called him out on the stuff north posted.
