It wouldn't be such an issue if our goalkeeper had the skill to find 1 of his colleagues rather than an opposition player or the stands !

Half the team can’t pass which is the crux of the problem- and a lot of our passing back ends with the ball going back to Butland, who guess what- has to hoof it. So should players attempt keepy-ups with players up there back side and attempt to hoof it backwards? Get s grip man SGS Do you seriously think every back pass is as a result of people having the opposition up their backside? Get a grip man!

If nothing is on... Then you have to buy a yard... Or turn your man... Or play a disguised pass. Like what Alan Hudson / Howard kendal / Kevin keen / johnny eustace / Steven Nzonzi did. If you don't have these skills.. Then why are you playing in midfield for Stoke? Are you saying that N'Zonzi never played the ball to the keeper, its an option and a sensible one, why risk losing the ball when all you have to do is give it back to the keeper so he can start again, we saw woods try something different and it resulted in a free kick to the oppo in a dangerous position, if it goes back to the keeper that wouldn't have happened. Every team do it including the successful ones so why is it that its not good enough for Stoke. No , I am not saying that
Sometimes its the only option
But there is far too much off players bottling it and passing the ball sideways and backwards , going on at Stoke, at the moment
If you trawl through enough videos , you will find examples of Hudson / kendall / Eustace / nzonzi , passing the ball backwards .But the important point is that it wasn't the main element of their play . In the main they were brave on the ball , happy to receive a pass in tight situations , and back their ability to use their body and their first touch to buy a yard of space and thread a pass through .
The problem with midfielders like we have at the moment , constantly bottling it and playing it safe , is it takes too long to mount an attack , and by the time we get to the final third , the opposition defence has already organised themselves and got themselves into position
