We all know what happens next....we seem to be in pole for the other guy and Blackburn nip in for this guy...we then fail with the other guy

www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19002829.rovers-lodge-bid-crewe-alexandra-left-back-harry-pickering/Rovers had made a bid for Crewe Alexandra left back Harry Pickering, the Lancashire Telegraph can confirm.
The club have a long-standing interest in the 21-year-old left back who is also attracting the attentions of Stoke City. However, Rovers are the only club to bid for the talented left back and it is understood the clubs aren’t far away in their valuations of the player.
Pickering still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, but Crewe are realistic as to the fee they could receive for the player
If Blackburn can agree a fee, it'll be very small. I can’t believe we are in for him. I think they must have other irons in the fire? I think that our established approach is better and will get results. The apples we are waiting to drop will fall whilst Blackburn are still watching their irons heat up.

If Blackburn can agree a fee, it'll be very small. Sounds like we're not in for him then doesn't it. If we're not then we really need to be because we're not going to get any better value.

If we're not in for him then questions need to be asked.

If you can get Doughty and Pickering for less than Jacob Brown, it is heartbreaking when you think how much money we've wasted to end up in this FFP-restricted mess.
Still, you'd think we could sneak them both in, even with FFP restricting us. They seem pretty different players and it shouldn't be a case of either/or

Wherever he goes, the Crewe fume should be amusing Just think how much better it would be if it was 500k to us though! Didn't there used to be a rumour that Peter Coates would never help our near neighbours in any way, shape or form?

If we aren't in for him, which left back/backs are we targeting, or are we targeting any?.

Perhaps they think Fox is on a par? Even if Fox is on a par he is currently injured and we need another capable LB. I suspect Pickering is destined for greater things than Fox but it could just be too much hype at this stage, still for 500k it seems a no brainer, we are in desperate need of an LB so we can play a back 4 again.

Definitely need two left back Fox is one, done all right + he can play in a back three

Maybe we are waiting for the fee to be agreed before matching it, hopefully.

Still, you'd think we could sneak them both in, even with FFP restricting us. They seem pretty different players and it shouldn't be a case of either/or 100% grapey. Unfortunately, and knowing us, there is always the third option: neither AD isn't in the bag and it looks for all the world like we are dithering with HP. Conversely of course, we're just keeping the powder dry (& the old todger unfurled) while we bang in a £20m bid on a new central striker? I have no idea what the Matondo loan fee is but in my book, we could have easily used TV more and used that (almost certainly not insubstantial) money to seal one or both of these deals? I think we need the LB far more.

Really disappointed if we're not in for him and he will definitely improve the team which is the criteria the manager is following isn't it? The initial fee is a lot lower than it would have been pre Covid and I'm baffled that we haven't even made a bid.

Seems to me it was either Alfie Doughty or Harry Pickering.
You'd imagine (or hope) that if we aren't in for Pickering, it is because we've got Doughty...

How long is Fox out for? I can live with him at LB as long as we can somehow get a forward in. I can't stand to watch Brown and Vokes for much longer.

I couldn't stomach the possibility of Vokes starting up front against Blackburn.

I’m excited for Doughty, if we get him, but we won’t see him until next year and he won’t play left back for us if he is good enough on the wing. We need an actual left back now. Fox being injured until February is a real problem for us.

Perhaps it’s a case re ffp of make do re Fox when back as money needed for a striker? Just a thought?

Perhaps it’s a case re ffp of make do re Fox when back as money needed for a striker? Just a thought? I have thought exactly the same. They probably think that Fox is not that far away from fitness and that what wriggle room we have that they would rather pursue a target man that actually moves.
