If this rumour is true, there`s only one outcome I reckon ............ he will choose Villa over Stoke ........ wouldn`t you ? Not necessarily, no. If Villa were fighting for an auto spot I'd agree with you, but they're scrapping for a final play-off place. JJ possibly feels loyal to Nathan Jones and that we have a shot of building something exciting that he wants to be a part of. I'd say we have the edge personally if it's a straight choice.

Can someone explain better (sorry if already been explained), what if the club don’t want to sell a player but some team comes in and makes an offer, does that mean we can then match that offer? That being the case, it seems rather stupid.

If this rumour is true, there`s only one outcome I reckon ............ he will choose Villa over Stoke ........ wouldn`t you ? Villa are in just as much of a mess as us though. Wages will be comparable. And he's worked with Jones pretty much all his career. We'd have to be favs just by virtue of the Jones connection surely? There is no guarantee that him and Jones are bosom buddies and if he is looking at a career move with the ambition of being a prem player Villa is clearly the better option. Higher profile club and more likely than us for a return to the top level any time soon.

Higher profile club and more likely than us for a return to the top level any time soon. Why are they? They're a whopping 4 points ahead of us and have amassed a whole 2 points more than us in the last 10 games! You're right that there's no guarantee that Jones and Justin had a fantastic relationship that would swing it, but it's not exactly difficult to believe that the manager who gave you your chance and has been bigging you up for the last two seasons wouldn't be a positive influence on any decision you had to make.

I hope you`re right in your judgement of the situation but loyalty is scarce in football these days and agents play a big part in players futures - Justin is only 22 and has his whole career to think about. With my red n white tinted glasses firmly off and my realistic head firmly screwed on, I can still only see one outcome if it boils down to a straight fight between us and villa.

It'll come down to money, but if we are comparable then he'll go to Villa.

It'll come down to money, but if we are comparable then he'll go to Villa. Why? He’s worked under Jones for his career. He will know he will get game time under Jones as an admirer of his.

I would be delighted if he joins us. He's got a couple of under 20 caps (both in games where England conceded zero goals) and you would hope that he has a good future ahead of him. Unlike almost all of our 20 year old players he has great experience of proper competitive league football and 50+ games at League 2 and 1 level has to be better for a youngster's development than 50+ games at Academy or U23 level.
For me this is the sort of player we should have been signing with some regularity for the past few years - obviously as well as some players with more experience. If only 1 in 5 similar players reaches the top level that still represents a better success rate than our youth policy has managed so far.
I'm also happier to trust Jones' judgement of a player he has managed in 50+ games rather than a player who has allegedly been watched up to 25 times by our existing dodgy recruitment team.

Update; busy few days ahead. Vokes looks promising crouch could go the other way. Waiting on villa bid for Luton player then it’s us to move in.
Fletcher contract probably terminated. Trying to shift shit. Couple of strikers could go. Could sign a player form forest.

Loyalty is scarce, but a manager you know is a safer bet than one you don't. He knows he can hit the ground running and have a decent chance of getting a game here, he'll have to prove himself from scratch at Villa. All things being equal, I know which I'd go for.

It’s finely poised tbf and smith has a decent record with youth too

Justin our new left back despite being right footed? Andy Griffin was right-footed but seemed to do better at left-back than on the right ....

Justin our new left back despite being right footed? I thought all top-class footballers were equally adept with either foot - is this a modern slant on the game?

Those who only remember him from our first season in the Prem (when he had lost a lot of his pace) probably don't appreciate was a good left-back he was.

The goal in the fog that night against Coventry was it? Was an absolute banger.

I know it was in his second spell but the one in the Fog, I think vs Coventry, was a fantastic strike!
