Trump has caved in to the democrats over his shutdown of the US Government.
Whatever your views of the rights or wrongs of the causes and the hardship it has done to huge numbers of ordinary Americans who stopped receiving their pay cheques, there doesn't seem to be much doubt Trump got his alpha male ass kicked by a liberal democrat woman.
That will be hugely damaging to the Donald.
Good.

He will win some he will lose some that’s the nature of the senate, congress and White House.
Most of his success go under the radar partly due to media bias.
Still better than allowing Hillary in

What sort of leader holds a gun to his nations head in order to get his way. Even if the democrats has capitulated, would that have been a victory for him. Only in his tiny mind. God bless America. They need all the help they can get 🇺🇸

Which is an awful lot of folk seriously out of pocket thanks to Trump's truculence. His conduct in this matter has been a disgrace. But, the bottom line is he lost. And no one likes a loser - particularly in America.

The travel ban. The bonfire of federal regulations. Criminal justice reform. Legislative action aimed at ameliorating the opioid crisis. Nato members ponying up more cash. Annual wage growth is at a nine-year high. 2018 was the best year for job creation since 2015. Many of his campaign pledges, such as the renegotiation of the Nafta free-trade agreement and the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, have been kept. Promise made, promise kept is one of his boasts that regularly rings true. You cannot complain about media bias on the brexit thread without conceding it happens with Trump too

They need all the help they can get 🇺🇸 I'm amazed the shutdown hasn't created more anger over there and more disbelief over here. Imagine our Government just stopping and not paying the UK's equivalent of the 800,000 people (around 190,000 workers) they didn't pay over there? The US is a really strange place with that buffoon in charge.

Only as a tool of government. They’re just facilitators. It would be like saying that the caterers were in charge of the wedding

My point is about Trump losing out in a battle of wills with Nancy Pelosi. Of course, most, but not all, US media is against him. But that has no bearing on Trump's loss on this issue.

There's plenty of building going on in places where the EPA previously banned it in places such as Florida where restrictions were lifted because they no longer believed the science behind global warming and it's effect of rising sea height. It's not really a problem as the people making the money will be dead before the Atlantic starts to lap up the sides of the condos.

Bit like the lot we've got here in Westminster over Brexit. Perhaps there's a "Democratic" deficit in the USA as well

That said there's always this impasse in USA politics and both sides use the system.

I understand your point and it's quite correct. It's just different to what I'm saying. Which is no one likes a loser (particularly in the land of the free). And, on this occasion, Trump has come out a massive loser. Not just that, as someone who projects himself as top dog alpha male, he got his arse kicked by a woman. I'm wondering if this will be a pivotal moment in his presidency.

It won't affect him or his voting public in any way in fact he's said he's only shelving it for now and threatening Presidential decrees although this will probably get bogged down in the "Chancery" of the American court system. The last President had similar problems with the Republican party the whole thing looks broken to me.

The set up right now thus reflects the elections of 2016 and 2018. If I am correct, there is no problem with the practice of Democracy in America.

What I'm saying is that he's only trying to do what he promised and the system is frustrating that process as it does with every president not just this one. There's also the fact that they only get a short period before they have to start campaigning for the next term which must make it nigh impossible to get any momentum going whilst in the first term of office.
This is of course ignoring a system that gets a president like Trump into office in the first place because it relies on Dollars before any particular ability.
Perhaps our American posters can give us an objective lesson on the efficacy of the system?

It’s like baseball. A word series winning team will still lose loads a game a season. You clearly do not understand the system if you are proclaiming him a loser because congress is stopping him do one thing. In the eyes of the right wing getting two nominations on the bench is huge. Influencing legal decisions for a generation. That’s a massive win in their eyes. Wood through the trees

Trump has had to opportunity to force his wall through a Republican Congress TWICE, so why did he wait until he lost control of The House of Representatives before making a stand? For me he's playing the drain the swamp/victim of the establishment card so to bolster his support in 2020. It's all a complete load of bollocks.

You're forgetting the golden rule of today's politics - it's always someone else's fault. So this is clearly the Democrat's fault, just like Brexit is Labour's fault. So this is definitely not Donald's fault.
As for just doing what he promised, he said "I will build a great, great wall. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall." I guess it could've been a typo and what he meant to type was "I will build a great, great wall. And I will shut down government in order to make you pay for it."

The EU could and should be a wonderful example of nations collaboration for a greater good. But it got to powerful and self serving and undermined that collaboration and forgot what it was supposed to do. It then became an organisation that the people felt was doing more harm to them than improving their lives. Successive blue and red governments allowed this to happen without checks and balances. Guess what the people decided enough was enough
