If you can get any extra fans in depends on 2 things. First the spacing between the rows of seats - i.e. the amount of leg room. Our rows are pretty close together so I doubt if we would get many extra fans in and still comply with safety rules. In Germany some rail seating areas will accomodate 50% more fans. BUT - and this is the killer as far as the bet365 is concerned. At the moment most of our concourses are bang on the lower legal limit as far as capacity is concerned. Only the main stand lower concourse will accomodate significantly more people than determined by the seats in the stand above. All the other stands have concourses which would break the law and not be big enough if the capacity of the stands above them was increased to take account of more people in safe standing areas. Sadly, the Brit was built just before the rules were tightened. So whilst the concourses easily complied with the rules when the Brit was built - they are now on the lower size limit. We could, of course, enlarge the concourses by building a new outer wall to hold the turnstiles and the catering areas and put an extended roof over the new area created, thus making the concourses big enough to accommodate extra fans in the stand above. I don’t think all the non main stand concourses are equal. I went in the south stand for a game last year and the concourse seemed huge. It might’ve been the new corner concourse. I was half cut to be fair so maybe my memory is playing tricks. The boothen end concourse though was always a joke from what I can remember, and this was from when crowds were significantly lower than they have been for the last 12/13 years. Navigating your way through was always a total free for all and a game of locating the small stream moving in the direction you want to travel, and then pushing your way through to join it and hoping it doesn’t randomly dissipate whilst you’re in it. Maybe it’s not so bad these days if they let people out to smoke? Either way, a fit for purpose new boothen end with standing areas is my dream. But most likely a pipe dream, something like that would need to come from the top, not some random div on a MB like me. Also would never feasibly happen until we’re back in the premiership and standing has become legal/widespread again as we’re not going to be pioneering in that regard. It probably was the new corner concourse which is bigger (relative to the stand above it) than the Boothen, the South Stand or the Tile Mountain (or East) Stand. The South stand concourse is a bit bigger relative to the seats as it has a few less seats because of the Police Box. The Boothen concourse is more cramped because of Delilah's taking up some room in the concourse and the tile Mountain concourse comes between the other two in terms of being cramped. The Main stand lower concourse is less cramped because, being in the main stand it is larger front to back than the ground floor concourses on the other 3 sides of the ground but doesn't have any more seats to serve as the seats on the upper tier have their own concourse.

You're all the research I need, you obviously don't give a fuck about the rules as they are so you're not going to give a flying fuck about any rules that introduced should they allow some standing areas. Gouranga. Maybe he has a back row ST specifically so he can stand without obstructing someone’s view? In fact, I think you’ll find that almost everyone with a back row ST has it there specifically to stand. Maybe he has but it doesn't make it right that he should flout the rules, I bought a 180mph sports car because it goes fast but I can only legally do 70mph in this country. As for your assumption "you’ll find that almost everyone with a back row ST has it there specifically to stand" where is your evidence to support this or have you (as I can safely assume) just made this shit up to support your opinion. Gouranga.

Gouranga. Most people on the back row stand. If they are being forced to by people in front standing, they will relocate. We've been at the ground for decades now so a natural process will have occurred where people with back row STs are ones who wish to stand.

I think you'll find if you take a trip down the M6 this afternoon & do 180mph, you'll end up in the back of a police car very very quickly. I however have not once been asked to sit down (home or away) in all my years following Stoke & England up & down the country & over the world. Congrats on the purchase though, mine goes 181

Congrats on the purchase though, mine goes 181 For many seasons we were constantly being asked / told to sit down at away matches, so I'm not sure where you've been. For quite a few years now a more "sensible" (less provocative) approach has been taken by stewards and police, this is also reflected in the write-up for purchasing away tickets, along the lines of, if you prefer to sit you are advised to buy tickets nearer the front. Personally, I have no issue with rail seating at the Bet 365 but the club would need to be careful as to where to locate these, given that they may have to ask some fans to relocate from seats they have had since the ground was first built (should said fans wish to continue sitting down)

Do you want a bunch of Stokies outside the studios at Salford Quays chanting your name and carrying Safe Standing placards tomorrow morning, Malcolm?

Why not go the whole hog and have leather footballs, wooden rattles, smoking sections, knee length shorts, ankle high leather football boots with leather studs and brylcreem on tap in the piss soaked stinking toilets. If you want us to go back 40 years we might as well do it right. Gouranga. Can we also have proper sliding tackles as well You’re thinking of Hampstead Heath surely?🤷🏻♂️

Which is a good look to have - especially as it is the first chance I have ever had to use that word on a message board!

Well said Malcolm. I'm a big supporter of the safe standing (rail seats) idea and have emailed the club on numerous occasions over the years about this.I only recently received a reply stating that the club are closely monitoring the situation but aren't seeking to be pioneers at this stage.I think maybe once it gets formerly legalised which it looks like it will quite soon more and more club's will get on this.I think in time it will happen at Stoke but it would really help if fans who want this also email the club to let them know there would be a demand for it.As I've always said fans deserve the choice so let the fans who want to stand stand and let the fans who prefer to sit sit without there view getting spoilt by the standers. For me it would be standing every time.

Would you still be able buy a season ticket for you seat/standing spot though, or would it be a first come first served when you get it, like unreserved seating?. Ive got used to the folk around me and id like to think they've got used to me, and id hate to lose my seat space to someone who just comes in and takes my spot, thus denying me talking to the wonderful array of folk I've known for many years.
