Metronomy last Thursday at the Manchester Academy. First live music since Paul weller mid 2019. It was a bit ‘simple bouncy’ but great fun.

I know what you mean often it's a pointless exercise adding an orchestra to a rock band but on this occasion they needed something extra to get the sound effects of the album together with the orchestration and it worked. It's a shame I wasn't aware of your cancellation my lad went down with the lurgy and couldn't make it so I had a free ticket. The only other time I've seen a band with an orchestra was Belle and Sebastian at the Birmingham Symphony Hall backed by the 80 piece London Contempory Orchestra. The band play classical instruments and there's a fair amount of orchestration in their albums so it was a more natural fit. Using young musicians was a bonus because they were up and dancing when they weren't playing I was at that B&S gig too. I enjoyed it, and the orchestra sounded brilliant when it was in full swing, but I felt like the orchestra was wasted for most of it. And they didn't play Write About Love despite it being the first single and title track of the new album at the time¡ I can't remember what they played. The thing that does stick out is that I got there reasonably early and had a drink and a snack and thought to myself that it was the best dressed gig I'd ever been to

What's the best time of the year to see these super furry animals, the first of April? They are there all year round, except slaughter season, so it’s it’s up to you what time of year you like walking there, kinda like two breads with one stone I'll have a look next time I'm there. I don't normally look on the river side I'm either looking into the woods to catch a rare glimpse of a unicorn or up into the sky to see the gryphons flying over.

Comedy-wise, I saw Gary Delaney most recently in Leek. I've seen him around 8 times now and he's superb every time. Barely 10 seconds goes by without a laugh.
He has a gig in Stafford soon, and Hanley in August I think.

Just seen and booked for The Stranglers in August at the great KK Steel Mill venue in Wolves. I missed the earlier tour in Jan Feb as had been ill and this is a warm up show for their Rebellion Fest headliner the next day, decent price and they still put on a cracking show www.kkssteelmill.co.uk/event-the-stranglers.php

Steps at the NEC Arena, Birmingham 2001. Respect bro, saw them at Wembley Arena same tour, Atomic Kitten opened. We "had" to take our goddaughter to see them, which is my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Westlife the same year was the same reason, honest guv. Look out for me doing the Tragedy dance in Block 33 tomorrow, off to practice now. And the Deeper Shade Of Blue wavy hand move, loved that.

The last gig I 'had' to take my children to was Rihanna about 10 years ago. I'd heard she was a very unpredictable woman and true to form she came on 45 minutes late and didn't even say she was sorry. The support 'act' was Calvin Harris who sat motionless behind some flashing lights doing precisely nothing whilst some pre-recorded dance 'music' assaulted my ears. Fortunately my children are old enough to go on their own now.

The minute 14,000 screaming girls hit full decibel range my daughter asked to leave the building leaving me and my son on our own. I don't believe I heard a single lyric, I doubt the lead singer could hear one either. Made those early Beatles vids sound like a library Deserves it's own thread.

Took the wife to Take That after they came back and the hysteria decibels were off the scale. Worked in Media print when Busted started and we did a shed load of promo posters and flyers and all thought nah they look shit and won't do well. Don't take tips off me lol. Got to say Year 3000 is a belter. Right, back to my Iron Maiden and Stranglers comfort zone

Feeder again - good stuff. Katherine Priddy - superb folk musician and voice. It was a sit-down gig and very relaxing. I first listened to Priddy because I saw a song titled "The Isle of Eigg," and I love the Hebrides. She's still on tour in the UK, with a gig coming up in her home city of Birmingham (she doesn't sound like a Brummie). I enjoyed support act Toria Wooff too. And so ended my 6 gigs in 11 days! Coming up, I have Meadowlake (afternoon gig) and Fairport Convention on the same day. Slowdive and AVAWAVES on consecutive nights. Then Gilbert O'Sullivan and Mostly Autumn spaced a week apart, but that looks like the start of another busy week with Liam Gallagher (possibly) then Amyl and the Sniffers. Nick Masons Saucerful of Secrets at Manchester Apollo last night. Brilliant, great band who clearly enjoying it. I missed this due to the clash with Katherine Priddy. I recommend Mostly Autumn to Pink Floyd fans (coming up at The Robin 2 near Wolverhampton).
