I have a sudden mild desire to get a tattoo. It would be a small one maybe on my forearm.
However, I can't think of anything that I want inked on me, and I don't want something trivial, random, or cliched. So no hearts or flowers or anything like that. (I'm female.)
How did you decide what tattoo to get?

Never had the desire to get one. Anything linked to your star sign used to be quite popular so the idea of a scorpion on me somewhere doesn't fill me with joy. 🦂😱

Not got one, never wanted one. I think they are horrible to be honest, particularly these "sleeves" the footballers and such have on their arms.
I think they're horrible when new, but they look even worse when the start to fade in time.

Personally quite like the look of sleeves or the Yakuza style back tattoo (that must be fucking painful to get) but no idea what I'd get if I was to have them. Sleeves are expensive as well and I think they are done in stages

How did you decide what tattoo to get? If you can’t think what you want then it’s probably best not having one.. it’s like you’re having one for the sake of having and not because you want one if that makes sense? I’ve got tattoos but they tell a story of my life so far in pictures on one arm a full sleeve, i will have more eventually with having children and marriage and all that too come! On the subject of tattoos I used to work with a bloke and he had both arms and his chest done and if you looked at the tattoos you wouldn’t think anything of it just that it’s a tattoo and I asked him about it one day and he explains them to me. Basically his daughter was born and she got ill before eventually after years of treatment coming out the other side all fit and well. But his tattoos told the story of his little girl like when she was born the tattoos are full of colour then as she gets ill it goes dark then comes out the other side on his other arm all colourful again as she got better it was quite touching to be fair him explaining them to me

I have the letter B on both bumcheeks, so when I bend over it spells my name.

How about "This arm intentionally left blank"?

The desire to get a tattoo without knowing what you want could end up in a painful experience in more ways than one.

I went to Thailand for a few weeks, got absolutely leathered on NYE and woke up in the morning with a small star on the inside of my arm to represent my lad...
Grown to love it now though.

Can't see the point (!) especially nowadays when everyone has them.
Think sleeve tattoos look terrible especially on skinny people.
Absolute waste of money.

I won't get a tattoo unless I think of something I really want, and even then I might not get it. I'm just curious to know how people with tattoos decided on their design.
What do you think about Chinese character tattoos? I see a bunch of people with them who don't know the language, and I don't understand why they do it. But I'm a native Chinese speaker.

I don't but I wonder what proportion of the country now do? There is a tattoo parlour not too far from me and you can look in. There are 3 rows of about 8 seats like a dentists waiting room and I swear on a rainy day there are as many as a dozen young girls just waiting to be processed. When I was a kid tattoos were the preserve of sailors, plumbers and a certain type of gay man and that was about it

I’d never really thought about this; what types are there? EDIT: Please don't answer. The more I consider this, the more I start 'gagging' so I think I'll just forget about it altogether.

Often wondered if some people end up with the contents of a takeaway menu rather than what they think it actually says 😲

In Chinese, the word for one is never used to refer to a person. It just means one, the number. So instead of saying, "Don't trust any person" like it was intended, it said, "Don't trust the number 1".

One night I was out with the wife and came back from the loo. I said, that bloke stood next to me and he has OK 3 tattooed on his penis.
She said, when I saw it it said Oklahoma bowling champion 1992 93.

If you want a good tattoo, it's not about picking an exact image, rather it's finding a tattooer that works in the style and subject you want. Do you want colour or black ink only? Geometric or traditional? Fine lines or bold? Find an artist that does work you really like and go to them. And if you find them on Instagram or something like that, make sure they aren't posting a bunch of photoshopped or doctored images. Once you have an artist, set up a consultation and have them create something custom based on what ideas you have and reference images from their work or another tattooer that works in their style.

My mate who went bald at an early age had rabbits tattooed on his head.
From a distance they look like hares.
