Well, they certainly don't seem to mess about....... Here's just one protester - v - 'rather more' French police, who seem very fond of getting the boot in, n'est-ce pas?
Rodney Kingesque. Nasty. Hello I’m a French fan of Stoke City. Actually in France, the government show the limit of democracy. We are in north korea. We want Frexit.

There is other footage in response to the tweet that shows a young girl who has lost an eye due to a rubber bullet...that was lodged in her eye! Gruesome, horrific sad and should not happen....I think that we can all agree on that

No pun intended at all - but this situation in France has got way out of hand now. However knowing the French I don't think they will let this drop and will continue with their protests until they get the concessions or changes that they want. My friends in Clermont-Ferrand have said there is a huge surge in popularity and support for the "cause" and ultimately they want Macron removed from power.
He's gone from hero to absolute zero in a very short time hasn't he ?

I'm not sure murph - they told me that (as we know) originally the protests were for a reduction in the price of diesel/petrol; but now groups from both the Left and Right, including students and emergency workers, have also joined the campaign and it's just snowballed. There does seem to be a groundswell of opinion and support for Le Pen's far right party as immigration and the multi-cultural problems have been very prominent recently, but I suppose that could just be their own political preference. I have asked them who they'd like to replace Macron - waiting for a reply.

Incidentally, I had been wondering if feelings over there were going along the lines of your second paragraph. Pity they stormed the Bastille a while back, as it would have come in pretty handy about now. One way or the other!

I wasn’t aware that plastic bullets had that capacity I don’t think they are capable of causing that level of injury....unless the French use something else? In the UK a shot from a rubber bullet to the hand could quite possibly break it or mash it all around the place if close enough, but that injury looks more like an explosive injury to me......maybe holding a thunder flash that exploded before being chucked?

I’ve seen comments saying why haven’t the British rioted in a similar manner. I’d say having a tradition of a largely well ordered and disciplined society, that has no tradition of militarism, fascism, totalitarianism or hysterical reactions and could be described as stoic, may have something to do with it.

This isn't about to end anytime soon is it. Sad. It seems to be escalating and spreading rather than quietening down. Maybe the level of French police response might have some effect but I don't think the gilets jaunes are in any mood to cave in just yet. Now that there are similar moves in Belgium and Holland it could continue for some time yet. I think people have just had enough of not being listened to by their governments and politicians.

Youth unemployment is a scandal across the Euro zone its inevitable young people feel they have no future and nothing to lose by taking to the streets .

I just heard more from my French friends and they are saying there's now a shortage of food in the supermarkets and less and less petrol and diesel for cars ! Macron's government have basically added fuel to the flames with their tax increases and the gilets jaunes operation was born about one month ago as a result. apparently it's now a co-ordinated movement across France and the situation has been made even worse due to looting as well with many just out to steal clothes, jewels, smartphones, everything in shops that they attack and destroy. Some of my friends live in Clermont-Ferrand in central France and they say it's not a good time to visit any part of France especially in biggest cities like Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux etc. France is greatly divided over this - some are pushing for Macron to go but it appears the problem will remain whoever the President is, because they think it'll be the end of French institutions and democracy.. They say France has the highest level of taxes for everything, and immigration is a major problem. A lot of people in France have seen the U.K. vote for Brexit and want the same but they say it's also clear that our Parliament is trying everything possible to stop Brexit. My friends say there would be riots (again) in France if their government tried the same tactics.

I've been away for a few days and not really following this French situation but it seems to be following a similar pattern to disturbances we’ve seen here in the UK in the past.
A group has a grievance against the government, police or some other authority……
After a peaceful start the protests become more riotous and violent…..
Rent-a-mob move in making the situation much worse as the looting, anarchy and violence get ramped up and the ‘protest’ becomes less focussed on the original issue and just becomes an opportunity for groups of yobs to hold riotous assemblies, destroying businesses and leaving destroyed town/city centres in their wake….
The government caves in or agrees to suspend or amend their plans which appeases many of the original protesters, but rent-a-mob carry on with their vandalism until public opinion turns against them, whereupon everything calms down and people and societies start counting the cost.
And, the government quietly re-introduces whatever it was that triggered the whole thing a few months later, and nobody bats an eyelid.
Is this the way it seems to be going, or have I got this wrong?

One thing I notice about all this is the complete lack of 'outrage' from the MSM & virtue-signalling celebrities (And a whole group of posters on this very forum.) Just imagine for a second that instead of this being Macron's France, it was Trump's America. Do we think all these people would be as quiet as they currently are?
... Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we soon start hearing how these protests are due to "Russian interference".

I think that you are right Harry, It's taking different forms across Europe. I do think in the case of the UK Labour have let the working class down. All the political parties are guilty john . I wasn't making any political points. It's more of a lack of planning and too much focus on big business . The lack of training . A very patchy education system,no help for small business . Zero hours contracts etc etc falling pay rates . Public sector pay . costs of utility . It's not right that someone who is employed in a reasonable job should need to claim benefits . The very successful economic performance of UK has passed a lot of people by
