Just one word, in big shouty caps: STRENGTH. We were just inspirationally strong as a unit. Gary had a plan, everything connected, it worked - including quality last-ditch defending I haven't seen from a Stoke side for far too long. Take a big bow Jack, take a big bow Gary too.
It's my first Rowett 10

He gets good marks for rightfully dropping McClean. It would have been interesting to see if Martina had played if fit. Regardless of his goal, Fletcher shouldn't be in this side. We had a good first half but dropped off massively in the second and rode our luck yet again like we did at Norwich.
I don't look a gift horse in the mouth and where we've come from we need wins more than anything.
I just don't like the slow, safety first ponderous football we're turfing up. Certainly not for the investment we've given the manager and the first team.
If it was rate the result i'd give him 11. Alas, it's a 6.

7. We definitely rode our luck, subs were okay considering we have a few injuries. We won’t win many away from home playing like that though. Still, well done GR, now please let’s back it up with a few wins on the bounce.
Some challenging games coming up with Boro, Forest, QPR, and Lampard County. Win 3 of those and we will be right up there, lose them and it’s starting to look like a big gap between us and those at the top.

7 for me.
Edwards should have his place in the starting XI for sure. Jack keeping us in it....but the 2nd half set up? Jesus wept!

Pretty good today Sal, wasn't sure about Fletcher selection but...... First game back this season as we now live in Portugal, great to see a backs to the wall win. Edwards and Butland tops. Here for 5 weeks so looking forward to home games now. 8 for me. UTMP.

7 From me.
Needed a big adjustment after the last two games.
I'd question getting another defender on - I actually thought it was one opportunity where crouch wouldve been the most sensible substitution.
You get 5 at the back and you invite pressure on.
We were lucky to keep a clean sheet and a lot of it is also down to jack making ace saves.
Did right by dropping Mclean and Martina, Needs to stick by Edwards and show consistent faith in him.
And the bad bits:
- Still looking terrible defending corners.
-Still looking terrible attacking corners.
-Still looking like we're going to get run over when they applied a bit of pressure.
We need to start imposing our identity and quality on opponents.
I don't think Fletcher is the right player for it, but his inclusion made us look a bit more solid in midfield.(EDIT) I'm referring to the 2nd half*
Does anybody know what Joe was doing today? I have no idea what his role was...
Overall a positive formation.
Shit sub for Mclean it was a waste of a sub, shouldn't have been on the pitch - I would've moved Edwards to midfield and put Bauer at RB (shudder)
We need to start managing games properly and that starts with Rowett.

I’m still on the fence about GR. However I’ve noted the lack of posts on this subject after a win. Strange isn’t it!

If they had scored an equaliser during that sustained spell of pressure in that second half folk would be demanding his head on a platter....the performance itself was cack.
It’s a results business though, and I’m delighted with the win.

5* - decent enough first half albeit unspectacular - second half negative, horrendously deep and lacking in quality out balls.......
A great three points though and we are not adrift thankfully

7 - First half it was a very average game and we managed to pinch the lead. Second half was frustrating as hell. I’m not sure he can be blamed for Woods, giving the ball away stupidly but he can teach us to keep possession from our own throw ins. First game of the season for me and I now see what you’re all worried about. We look very open. I’m not sure what the plan is. Afobe doesn’t look mobile enough to play up front on his own. Our squad looks painfully shite though. I’m not sure who he could have brought on to stem the tide in the second half so it was a case of pick what you can.

8 for me
He had the balls to sub a sub, not because CA was playing bad either but because it was the right thing to do.
Fatih in Edwards paid off.
Fletcher did give us more balance and we deteriorated after he went off.
Glad that he picked Saido too.

Wasn't there so can't offer a rating.
However...
We are getting ugly points away from home. That's the sort of thing that gets you moving up the league. Which matters.
What doesn't matter is pointless speculation as to who and who shouldn't be in the side.
And well done Darren Fletcher. Bury the winners while your legs allow and carry on ignoring the done nothings and know nothings along the way.

*6.5
Starting fletcher. WTF. I don't care that he scored, I watched him give the ball away a lot.
Pleasing to see Edwards start and McClean dropped.
The subs from then on, were encouraging us to sit deep and invite pressure. If we had brought on more attack minded players (Bojan), we would have had them on the back foot for the second half.
All in, obviously pleased we won, but it wasn't satisfying at all due to poor use of subs.

Hard to give less than an 8.
3 points away from home and the only team in the league to win away from home on the day.
Proved literally everybody wrong including myself selecting Fletcher, dropped mclean & got the all important 3 points.
Good days work Mr Rowett 👍

First half 8 Second half 3
Dunno what he said at halftime but we can’t keep getting away with sitting back like that. Players take some of the blame but surely he has worked on that and said he should be bossing them from the touch line. Inviting them onto us was criminal midfield were pretty much camped in our own half. Wins a win but I don’t want to see that to many times if we are leading won’t be so lucky next time!

5....but for the woodwork and Butland we should’ve lost that game easily and second half in particular we were under pressure for far too long before he did anything about it.
