Best midfielder since N Zonzi and yes only one game. Nothing like N'zonzi but he does appear to have the potential to fill a Whelan size hole that has been a major issue for us. Not saying he is like N Zonzi, but his demand for the ball is similar and his discipline is similar to Whelan. He will be a major factor if we go and have a good season.

I just hope he can carry it on as it seems he’s what we’ve needed since Fonz left. And it took Rowett to spot it. Why.. was nzonzi a disciplined "sitting" midfielder?

I thought first half he was a little tentative, but second half he really stepped up to the plate. Thought Afobe was awesome as well. What a work rate..

He was brilliant last 20 mins just what you need when your trying to keep a lead and posession. For me he’s better than Whelan. Whelan was a fighter but not as comfortable on the ball.

By far the most important player in our team already. Completed 52 of his 54 passes. He offers a range of passing as well its not always back and sidewards.
The biggest difference is the confidence he gives the rest of the team knowing he is back there ready to clean up the loose balls.
Hats off to Ryan

We need 2 Ryan Woods. One to be Ryan Woods and one to play higher up to win the ball in and around the opposition box - so many loose balls that we don’t win, he’d win then all and use it to make chances.

I'm just happy I backed Brentford in the handicap market, cause if they don't want him they should piss this league :-)

He just wants the ball all the time and wants to make things happen which is exactly what we've needed since the start of last season - someone who will put their foot on it, take some responsibility and try and dictate play. He dropped a bit too deep at times to try and get things going, but he obviously isn't one to go hiding. Hopefully he keeps playing like this.

Superb. I think we will really start getting going over the next couple of months and this youth will be at the centre of it. Great signing. Hungry player looking to be positive.

The guy is a dream. Excellent footballer with a seemingly good mentality.
When we get promoted he'll adapt to a higher level without doubt.
Future captain.

I’ve been inculcated to expect every second pass to be backwards these days, absolutely refreshing to see him always look for the forward pass.

He looks very good and better on the ball than Whelan, but to be fair Whelan only played 14 games for us in the championship the rest of his 277 league appearances were in the premier league against better opposition. So far so good from Woods lets hope he can play 250+ games in the premier league for us.

He was much better on Saturday Just proves that even on a off day he’s still MOM. He came into his own last 20 mins. For me I would have given MOM to Afobe thought he was excellent.

Like I said on the main match thread - our Paul Scholes. Creates time and space and will make other players relax. What a player.
