So, he came on last night and played out of position, left wing and right wing. This was never going to help his game but, and its a big but, he didn't even manage the basics. I have always wanted Bojan to recover from the Rochdale nightmare but it simply isn't going to happen. I know he will never properly track back, but his confidence, pace, trickery and decision making all seem to have left him too. Many fans tell me he can link play, I lost count of the number of times he gave the ball away last night. Etebo would probably have been a better option for the injured Ince last night. It is very telling how little interest there has been in Bojan and how unsuccessful his last two seasons have been out on loan. He has been a wonderful player for us but I feel he is done now at Stoke, may be as a footballer all together, and being with us is simply a distraction from the bigger problems that we have. Bojan DID recover from the Rochdale nightmare, this is one of the biggest myths of the Hughes era. He played 31 times in 15/16 as part of that wonderful Bojan, Shaqiri, Arnautovic front line and we finished 9th. Then as soon as February 2016 came along and false 9 didn't work in a couple of games, Hughes shat himself and dropped him. He barely got any time in 16/17 as Hughes opted to play Crouch, Diouf, Berahino, Bony and Walters ahead of him (they scored 14 goals between them, Bojan got 7 on his own the season before, and managed 3 in 16/17 despite barely playing). Then all of a sudden it was "last chance saloon" for him against Wolves where despite being nowhere near match sharp because of being benched he was thrust into the starting line up against a plucky Wolves side. Fed up of hearing "oh he never recovered" he did recover, he was just horrifically managed by Mark fucking Hughes.

Playing Bojan on the left wing was the final straw for me last night. Rowett hasn’t got a clue what to do with the players at his disposal and although the players are a bunch of bottlers, he has to take a fair share of the blame for where we find ourselves at the moment. He hasn’t got clue of who or how he wants to play at the moment, and that’s really worrying. Perhaps. But it its his fault. The vast majority of players are shocking. Shawcross, Adam, Peiters, Fletcher, Imbula, Choupo, all need to go as a bare minimum. Too many think they are too good. THEY ARENT. SCHOLES AND CARTWRIGHT OUT SGS

What a thoroughly wank thread.
Him, Ince, Berahino and Afobe have looked like the only players to have had the slightest clue over the course of four games.

He might’ve contributed, but the Man City game aside he never looked like the player he did in that wonderful run against the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, WHU etc. His being dropped in 15/16 coincided with an upturn in form that made it hard to make a case for reinstating him with the team getting results. He had chances in 16/17 against modest opposition and didn’t take them. Boro. Palace. Bournemouth. Wolves. He did nothing in two separate loan spells. He’s looked good in the Championship though and there’s nothing to lose by finding a place for him.

Thought he was one of the least shit performers yesterday tbh. The only player I recall actually beating (not literally) a man.

Depends what the question is. Is Bojan the answer to all our problems? No. Could he be a possible alternative to Darren Fletcher? Absolutely.

One of about 4 players that has the bollocks to move the ball in this team. Not scared of failing.
Doesn't matter how strong the opposition players are if they can't get within 10 yards of him. Best technical footballer i've seen play for Stoke and he should start every week. Wouldn't mind if we had another number 10, but we haven't. Build the team around him.

If we are to succeed in this league we need Bojan to play 30+ league games this season. Afobe likes to play on the shoulder of the last man he becomes totally ineffective if there's 30 yards between him and the central midfield because Darren Fletcher did not once ask for the ball from the centre halves and it's a waste having Allen that far down the pitch. We desperately need someone in that hole who wants that ball and is happy having it.

Agree with the OP. Gave the ball away and ran into blind alleys too many times. Playing out of position isn’t an excuse for not doing the basics. The difference is he gave the ball away taking risks, playing forward passes and trying to make something happen. Allen and McLean generally take one touch to give it away when they're in eight yards of space on the halfway line

He was pretty dire out wide last night although it further highlighted the fact that we have no wing cover.
