"Everyone" didn't call it soccer just middle class people. Secondary modern kids played football, most High schools and Grammar schools played rugby. There were exceptions like Hanley High played football and Newcastle High played hockey in the spring term. "Rugger" was a middle class expression. N.B. I'm talking 1950s and 60s. Oh yeah, us scruffy kids playing soccer in the backs were well middle class The really posh folk from Queen Street called it nogger..... We called it footie, until the kid who's ball it was went in for his tea. But being a Meir lad I always was posh. The hard thing was jumping over two peoples walls to get the ball back without being bit by their dog. A training regime our players could well benefit from.

Where's that Project Stoke 107 guy? It's more like Project Stoke Survival. Here I am! As I have been for over 50 years and will be, God willing, for the next 20 or so years. How about “We’ll be back!” Guy? Perhaps you should change it to We’ll see your back as you leave?” A quick tip before you go..... when you pick your next team, do a little research. If the team has been around for 150 years and the number of relegations vastly outnumbers the number of trophies won, you’re a little simple if you expect that to magically change simply because you’re now supporting from afar. Anyway good luck supporting ManUre, I hope it gives you the gratification you crave.

All-in on a return to the top flight for our SCFC boys.
