Muller. Careca. Kempes. Boniek. Eusebio.
They were all quite good.

I often wonder....just HOW GOOD was George Best?? I was fortunate to have seen him play in the flesh on several occasions when we played Manure at the Vic. For me he was the best ever alongside Pele. There was no limits on what he could have achieved, and believe you me, he played in an age when defenders would defend however they could, and no prisoners were taken! Always a bit difficult to compare across the ages, but this doesn't effect talent. On today's pitches, and with how players are protected nowadays, you would need two balls in every game he played, because no one would have got the ball off him! I didn't see THAT much of him to be honest, having left England for Australia in 1971.....but what I did see was just brilliant. Today he would be almost unplayable

I'm glad that someone mentioned Ronaldinho. Though many questioned his commitment and dedication - he was like a comet, and his career seemed to be over in a flash - some of the things he could do were truly ridiculous. He was a pure entertainer, who never fulfilled his outrageous potential.
One who did, and was the engine of the best club side I ever witnessed, was Xavi Hernandez. I could watch him all day long. I have never seen any player have so much time, even surrounded by the opposition. A selfless genius who, when the time comes, I expect will manage Barcelona for years.

What about as a partnership? Romario and Bebeto, shearer and Sheringham?

I always thought Batistuta could have been up there if it wasn't for him staying at Fiorentina as long as he did. He kicked balls like he hated them!

How do you compare some of those named above to Ferenc Puskas? A different era to many, but an average of a goal a game at International level for Hungary (84 in 85 games between 1945-1956, according to Wikipedia )

Chuck Iniesta in with Xavi too. Both excellent but as a combo they played together with ease.

I believe he was great but nowadays he doesn’t get the mentions he used to unless it’s about his love of pies Yeah I often feel a bit sorry for him that the other Ronaldo came along. One of the greatest players ever and still people don't know who you're talking about unless you prefix his name with the word "fat" Fat Ronaldo is my favourite of all time.

Don't think anyone's said Zlatan, he must be up there with the second-tier greats.

I'm guessing many won't agree but for a few years at Inter before his injury problems and his mental health issues, Adriano was just unplayable. For 2-3 years he was everything you would want from a complete striker.
Zlatan has said publicly that he is his greatest ever team mate.

Javier Zanetti and Roberto Carlos would push strongly for the two full back positions in a greatest all time XI
I always thought Patrick Kluivert would do better than he eventually did after leaving Barcelona. He was often compared to Ronaldo when he first broke through at Ajax

Not that he played for a shit country but always had a fractious relationship with the national team and never really established himself. Was also considered lazy.

Where are Pele and Cruyff? And from before my time Di Stefano, Puskas etc. Of those I have actually seen Pele was the greatest, the under the radar almost greatest would be Oleg Blokhin. Oleg Blokhin, great shout, and pretty much forgotten.

Denis Bergkamp was the greatest for me, the goals against Newcastle and Argentina were pure genius. As a kid in the 90's I would always be him when having a kick about with my mates. My mates would all go for Giggs, Zola, Henry and Owen, who were all pretty great also.
