Did well with a relatively unskilled squad.

If yes. Until then he’s done enough to have support rather than questions surely?! Is anyone suggesting otherwise? The comments on this thread suggesting that if he makes a mistake he should go, rather than praise for getting us to a semi final, that just strikes me as odd. I’m trying to make the point that we should all be pleased with a semi appearance and enjoy it for at least a while before we start questioning the National team manager’s future 😂

Our record in the Euros is admittedly atrocious but you have to wonder about the merits of the top 10-12 nations having to quality for a continental tournament consisting of 24 teams. I agree but the answer is the Euro Championships should be 16 teams at most and personally I would have it with just 8 Me too but let’s be honest, the Euros are not going to get reduced in size. The next step will be up to 32 teams

Yeah imagine judging a manager every two years in line with where he should be performing. Crackers! Managers come and go. What we need is that stability at a technical level to bring through the players and then the best manager we can get. If that's Southgate and he carries on performing then ace. Nothing is guaranteed though. That’s stating the obvious, well done. Oh and well done Gareth on our first semi final for a long long time, but beware people are watching and waiting for you to slip up! Christ sakes! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ The obvious that in the previous post you were poo pooing. No, not at all. Again, it's HYPOTHETICAL. Again, IF he does screw it up, then there is a discussion to be had. IF.

Nobody’s said he doesn’t deserve praise, quite the opposite. Nobody’s said if he makes a mistake he should go, just that he shouldn’t be guaranteed automatically a crack at the next World Cup if he makes a complete cock of the Euros - it depends what happens between now and then. You yourself agreed with that!

This is a thread about the future. You've gone batshit mental over a hypothetical situation. He might win the fucking thing. He might not qualify. When discussing him being manager in 4 years, that's relevant.

Southo has done great for a variety of reasons.
But in the next six months the backlash will begin. And loads will join in.

Said from day one this is a poor England team (who are united to be fair) and the draw has been our best player in the tournament. Gareth Southgate may well unite the team but he is so inflexible and too loyal to players who were not performing. You have to pick Deli Counter, Linguard (Pixie face) and Ashley Young who have been anonymous most of the tournament. Why did he not drop them. Not cause were out but as I have posted I thought we have not played well once all competition.

All three should have been replaced but Southgate refused and stayed loyal. For me its had a big impact. I posted last week that Walker had already been caught twice in the tournament because hes not a centre back and it cost us big tonight. This is the managers job which for me where he has massively failed.

I’m absolutely heartbroken, but optimistic at the same time. Why can he only get better? Because no one gave the guy a chance of doing anything in this tournament. Tonight was a lesson, and I’d back Southgate to evolve from that over any of the other useless cunts we’ve had.

Why can he only get better? Because no one gave the guy a chance of doing anything in this tournament. Tonight was a lesson, and I’d back Southgate to evolve from that over any of the other useless cunts we’ve had. I hope he does because I think tactically he was totally schooled tonight. My main hope from this tournament is that the young players from the U20 and U17 sides that won their World Cups are now given a chance. They need to be playing in the league, they need to be fast tracked if they're good enough. And that's where I do believe Southgate can deliver. He'll always be a bit of a shit tactician but when pressed tonight, we resorted to hoofing. I don't think the next generation will do that. And I do think he can bring them through. And with that hope comes the hope that he will learn a little and that they're good enough to negate it. If the FA believe we have any good young CBs or CMs they have to fast track them. It's the weak area. The attack will sort itself out once Foden, Sancho, Sessegnon etc come to the fore. If we do it right we could be on the verge of being a really good side. I don't think we're there yet, not by any stretch tbh but the 2022 World Cup could be a good one for us if we believe in the young players we have.

Don't think it matters who the manager is at the next world cup. Can't see us doing well in the heat of Qatar. English players don't like it hot do they.

Our “limited squad” have far exceeded expectation and we should appreciate what they have achieved, not take the earliest opportunity to slag them off. FFS Stoke have been shit for 2 years, not just 3 but the whole team. People get what they deserve in football. We got relegated for being toss, England reached a semi final from nowhere, and still they get slagged.

mixed feeelings from me on Southgate, we beat teams we should be beating so I’m not sure he deserves all the gushing praise he’s getting, we had by far the easiest run of any of the teams that reached the semis and the moment we faced a side with a scintilla of quality and tactical nouse we got sussed out.
We beat Tunisia (via a late winner) panama, Columbia (by the skin of our teeth) and Sweden ... yes you can only beat what’s in front of you and we’ve had some retched tournaments in recent years so this is a step forward but beating these teams is hardly a great feat imo

His substitutions last night were like for like, didn't seem to have a plan to change things and upset Croatias rhythm

Loved the feel good factor around the country - and he's handled himself flawlessly.
But last night was as bad and depressing a performance as anything we've seen from England in the last 20 years (apart from Iceland!)
And he seemed like a rabbit in the headlights a bit.

Whatever he’s done in the previous games last night pretty much summed up that he’s got a lot to learn, I couldn’t understand why Kane was literally a CDM. Any average team would have got through our group and beaten the likes of Colombia and Sweden and Croatia.
I’ve flicked through a few papers this morning and to quote one headline “Heroes “, really???
I’ve really enjoyed the WC and the pre season has flown by but Leeds away and promotion is more important to me.
