The Evans tackle on Holden was far worse. It finished Holden's career at the top level. Why isn't Evans reviled as Shawcross is? Maybe because he issued an apology straightaway, and Holden graciously accepted it. End of story. The Shawcross/Ramsey shit carried on because Ramsey and the media kept poking a stick at it. Our supporters fell for it and made ourselves live up to a stereotype the media were happy to perpetuate. We sang about Ramsey walking with a limp. Arsenal fans sung that they hoped Shawcross died. Which was worse? Which got massive coverage in the media? Wenger and Ramsey took the piss. We just defended our player. Whatever we'd have done would have been twisted to make us look bad. So instead of sinking to a whole new level of scum, we could just, you know, ignore it? The real defense of Ryan would've been to ignore it. However we sing about it everytime we play them, we constantly keep mentioning it and therefor we're not protecting Ryan at all.

The stories in the media had continued year after year until then. Stoke City should have defended Ryan more vociferously than they did. They chose to ignore it, presumably in the hope that Ramsey would shut the fuck up. He never did. Our supporters just did what football supporters do. No win situation for us.

And my point is those singing songs about him is not defending us or Ryan. If the aim is to get rid of that fake image the media made us out to be, it's not by singing songs about the victim and living up to the media's portrayal of us. It makes no sense at all, and the people defending it on here are just an embarrassment.

I've never been described as a thug and and embarresment before so I suppose today becomes a day of firsts, so thanks for another memorable moment in my life, its one that will live long in the memory.

Gary Newbon apparently didn't get on with Jimmy Hill, so Coventry were often on last. It still annoys Coventry supporters decades later. But star soccer didn't work like that. It didn't show all the midlands goals. It must have been when Newbon was on Central, on a Monday evening he put Cov on last.

Okay, keep singing about a man who suffered a horrific injury then ya little saint.

Since when have football fans been saints? It's about rivalry and alot of hatred of bitter rival teams but I don't think deep down after some naughty things are sung that folk really mean harm. That's what the sport can make folk.
