Have to say, done a complete 180 degree turn on the Murphys, made the mistake of not chilling it and drinking it from the can-served ice cold, in a Guinness glass, its absolutely gorgeous, particularly the aroma. Far nicer than bog standard draught Guinness for sure. Had a Mocha Stout from Sainsburys called Orinico, very nice too. Picked up some Murphys from B&M in Trent Vale today
Lovvely when chilled
That's the key, chilled and in a pint glass. It's gorgeous, the aroma is amazing. Genuinely pisses over Guinness (well maybe not Guinness Milk Stout). Along with Beamish, more evidence that brand leaders aren't necessarily the best!

Not a Stout but I came across a cracking pint of M&B Mild in the Golden Lion Newcastle. Very tasty too. Did you bathe your feet in it honestly, I really think it's a nice drink. Mild always seems to be looked down upon but I can remember Chestnut mild and it was hard to find a nicer pint.

Mrs Wainwright went shopping to Aldi. She brought back a couple of bottles of Dark Matters Coffee Porter.
Lovely stuff, brewed specially for Aldi by Brains.
IMHO it's nicer than the Spill The Beans coffee porter that they usually sell.

The Beans and Dark Matters are one and the same and they've just changed the packaging. Especially since I only see Dark Matters in my local Aldi and haven't seen the Spill The Beans for best part of a year since the Dark Matters appeared. I've still got a bottle of each so I might have to do a side by side comparison ππ

This thread is up my street.
Where's good for stout locally these days? Reliable Guinness would be great, or something more interesting.
Not been in the Holy Inadequate since lockdown so that's on the list, and assume they always have something worth trying. Anywhere else worth a look?

The Hopwater Cellar (they do growler takeaways of their draught stuff too)and Mellards in Newcastle get some ridiculously good stouts in canned or draught. The stronger the better for me now, 10-12% seems to be the sweet spot. Love a good pastry stout. Anything by Aumundsen or Kees you should snap up.
