Anyone into it? Love my Guinness but enjoying some lesser known ones like Young's Double Chocolate, Spill The Beans Coffee Porter, London Porter and Celebration Ale. Gutted that it's virtually impossible to get hold of Beamish nowadays (they don't export to UK). Any recommendations VERY welcome!

Got a few cans of Murphy's in too. Been looking at Mackesons too. Somehow i remember trying Mackesons once and not being impressed but saying that probably tastes change and must be 20 years plus. What I'd give to track a four pack of Beamish down LOL. Almost as elusive as coffee creams.

Guinness was my transition drink from lager lout to real ale {with a modicum of chin strokery.} Pilgrimage to Dublin, piling on the pounds, paid some penance for the art. Is Guinness shit black etc? Only occasionally dip back into it, a pub whose pumps can't be trusted and such. Quite like Titanic's Captain Smiths and the odd plum or damson porter. A bottle or two of West Indies Guinness Porter {Co-op £1.50 ish} is where it's currently at. Not really strayed much into specialist stout territory recently. Chin chin.

There was a white chocolate beer in there, think that may have been Belgian: £34.95 a bottle if memory serves, very tempted, even tho'it will be the most expensive wee I've ever had....😂 He did have something on draught for sampling a while ago,he described it as almost a "liquid crunchie bar.." name escapes me now.

Get yourself over to Buxton Brewery and try their Yellow Belly (11%), or Yellow Belly Sundae (12%), not the cheapest but you have to pay for quality, absolutely gorgeous!

The supermarkets have upped their beer game in the last couple of years. I'm not sure this has fully extended to stouts though - stock always seems a little lacking to me. Love a bit of the black stuff mesen.
Hard shake by wiper and true is a belter.
I sometimes get a delivery through the online beer clubs like beer52. You can normally find voucher codes online which makes the cost pretty reasonable.

www.booths.co.uk/counter/beer-cider/This is the supermarket to use for booze if you're in the North West. Knutsford or Hale are closest and we'll worth a visit to stock up if you're passing. Cracking spirits selection too.

Gutted that it's virtually impossible to get hold of Beamish nowadays (they don't export to UK). Any recommendations VERY welcome! Traditionally more a winter tipple but now the beer revolution is in full swing they're all over the place. Stouts and Porters are great. Don't get me wrong I like a Totally Brewed Sorachi Mango IPA an Oakham's Citra or a Black Iris Bajan Breakfast just as much as the next guy but for me they're more flexible than just beer, beer. They go well with cherry, damson, plums, orange, coffee, liquorice, chocolate, caramel etc etc. For local brews I'd recommend the Centwealial Milk Stout brewed by Weal Ales in Chesterton. Their 100th brew hence the play on centennial. Super creamy and rich. They also do a Weal Noir Porter with a roasted malty slightly bitter finish. Both available from their pub, Wellers in Newcastle or in bottles. Weal Ales Another great local brewer is RAN Ales brewing out of a unit in the IMEX Business Park in Fenton. Brewed by Neville Smith (Real Ale Nev - RAN) Nev does three stouts, Rum n' Raison, Cherry Chilli and a Choccy Wokky. He's got a great little bar right next to the brew room open on a Thursday night, Friday and Saturday 12 - 10.30pm plus any odd SCFC match day as it's walking distance. Bottles give the most variety but tins will be the way forward. BottleCraft in Hanley, next door to the Regent Theatre is good as is The Hop Water Cellar in 'Castle. More variety in Hop Water. As you're near the strip in Trent Vegas you could take a wander down the London Road to the London Road Ale House, they always have at least one stout/porter on. Other notable ale houses which always have a stout/porter on are Bridge Street Ale House, Hop Inn (Albert Street) Artisan Tap (Hartshill) and Sanctuary (Hartshill). The free App Untapped will keep you up to date with the ever changing menus at BottleCraft, Hop Inn and the London Road Ale House. After all that there's nowt wrong with the co-op's West Indies Guinness Porter or Fullers Black Cab Stout at £1.65 from Morrisons. Titanic Plum Porter is huge seller with good reason bottles or which are available from Titanic pubs and bargain booze among other places. Some of my favourites; Stay Puft Marshmallow Porter from Tiny Rebel They also do an Imperial version at 9% which is unbelievable. Tiny Rebel are a great brewery and not just for porter. If you want a whole world of beer to explore then Brew by Numbers is a universe. I've done most of the zero8's and never a bad one. Ossett Brewery are interesting. They do a treacle stout which is nice but they also own the Fernandes and Rat micro breweries. Fernandes does an amazing chocolate orange stout called Black Voodoo which is well worth searching for. The Bristol Beer Factory does some good stouts and porters notable their Milk Stout which you see more on draft nowadays. I've not had a bad beer from Salopian Brewery either, their Noire was a pretty good no nonsense flavoured trad stout. Polygraph is their latest dark offering. The Seven Bro7hers Stout from Manchester was a lovely drop sometime ago on hand pull in the Hop Water Cellar.

Some cracking posts lads (particularly the last one) a lot of stuff to go off. Had an unusual tip off someone. Was recommended with stout to add either a drop of coffee or that one in the bottle called Camp. I'm a huge coffee lover so it's well worth a try. Has anyone Btw tried that dark beer in Aldi called Medusa?? Always been a sucker for a good Mild too, used to love Chestnut mild but seems to be extinct now. Thats my two favorites now gone, what with the Beamish non export. If anyone can come up with a way to acquire Beamish (without having to go to Ireland LOL) I'd be over the moon. Next time im in Penkhull, ill have a look at the microbar up there :-))

EDIT: A big shout out for the Holy Inadequate pub Etruria Old Road, ST1 5PE, Stoke-on-Trent.
Nobody is ever "passing" but if you're in the area, or looking for a no kids, no music, no Sat TV, no swearing kind of pub. Here it is. Excellent place for all things aley and they do some pork pies as well.
Consistently wins CAMRA's pub of the Potteries or the Midlands or Pub Up My Street awards or whatever they are. Anyway, this place has won a shed load.

If you ever come across Dark Star's Creme Brulee buy it. It's not in anyway too sweet. Creamy, lactosey and unbelievably smooth for a 5.9% It's not even a stout or a porter but it's definitely not an ale.
I think you can buy cans online. You'll be very lucky to come across it on a pump unless you're down Brighton East Sussex way near the brewery.

Never brewed a true stout. One year I used a dark mild kit and some wild rose flowers. Just came across some photos of folk consuming it. Dark as Guinness, white head, holding to the sides of glasses. Looks and was a fine fragrant drop. About 5.5% as I recall. Also some pictures of the 'Port Side List' Meadowsweet Ale that was knockout but 'acquired', sort of marzipanish, like a bakewell tart 7%.
