Possibly...especially given that pickford is shite I know this a minority view however I think Pickford has done fine for England. He looks a liability at times for Everton though. Given Pope and Henderson have been outstanding they should be getting caps ASAP Yeah surprisingly I can't think of too many mistakes he's made in an England shirt but it's totally different for Everton. I watched the game yesterday and he had 3 "extremely dodgy" moments in the first 10 minutes alone. I think Anchelotti will replace him eventually.

Id prefer we sold butland as opposed to swapping him for Gunn.
Davies looks pretty accomplished so far and it would be very harsh for him to lose his place to a player swap.

Logical However what do you do if there is no other bid on the table? Keep him? Or do this deal with Southampton? Ideally someone else comes in for Butland and we sign an older experienced keeper, on loan maybe, for a year whilst Bursik progresses at Doncaster. All that might be out of our hands though.

If true, presumably he'd be coming as clear number 1 as a big earner? He's got three more years on Prem money at Southampton - signed as a £10m player who'd been in the England squad He wouldn't be coming to sit on a Champo bench What happens to Davies? Obviously it's good to have competition, but there's normally a clear pecking order with keepers and he's always looked a bit too good and on too good a contract to be a Championship back-up keeper? And the highly rated Bursik whose only on loan and will be back next season vying for a spot which will be very difficult with two keepers on long contracts Where does it leave him as Gunn is no short term stop gap? If this story is true of course Equally, where does the existing situation leave Bursik and Nokeu(?)? Replacing Butland with Gunn makes no difference to the situation regarding keepers that we have now. So the pecking order and any other considerations don't change just because you have swopped keepers of the SAME calibre.

I would imagine he’d of expected a short term loan ( a Federici type ) who would only be here for one season and would be gone on his return in order to challenge Davies? If this deal happens he’d pretty much out of the picture which is quite worrying from our point of view as he seems highly regarded and is an England U21 international and is at the age where he’ll be challenging It’ll be interesting

Gunn not in the 18 again for Soton.
So he'll have to move somewhere. We're probably about as good as he'll do in terms of being a No.1 after his dodgy spell there.
Wonder where Butland would fit into the pecking order alongside McCarthy and Forster. Presumably he'd displace Forster initially and back himself to have a chance of replacing McCarthy at some point.

I can't believe one of the big clubs hasn't come in for Pope. The obsession with keepers being good with their feet (as good as an outfield player) is now bordering on the ridiculous. Does not being picked for England make it harder? Porn usually does the trick 😎

www.skysports.com/transfer-centreSAINTS LISTENING TO OFFERS FOR TRIO Southampton are open to offers for Wesley Hoedt, Sofiane Boufal and Guido Garrillo. Hoedt has interest from former club Lazio and others in Italy, while Boufal has interest from France. Saints are also keen for Angus Gunn to find a new club for more game-time, preferably on loan, after dropping behind Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster to third-choice.

Game time here though would be a kick in the knackers for Davies.
And so, do we need an expensive loan sat on the bench?
"No" would be my view.

You could argue Forster’s fall from grace has been as bad as Jack’s. Can’t see him or Jack fighting it out for third choice so difficult to see how this move will work.

Very similar situations really. Promising young England goalies who turned out to be completely duff and end up sitting on the bench on eye-watering wages. It would be monumentally daft for Saints to collect two of them.

Why would Southampton want Butland? He's no better at the moment than the 3 gk's they already have and they want to get rid of Gunn because he's third choice and they can't give him game time. For that matter why would Butland go anywhere as potential third choice when he's out of contract in the summer? He's not going anywhere this summer unless we pay him to leave.
