well the fans on this board wanted him out. would he have done better pointwise from the same fixtures as pl? impossible to say but I said at the time be careful what you wish for. I have nothing against paul lambert but there wasn't exactly a lot of choice out there.what did for hughes was the build up of negativity esp on this board which did affect the players. we have 8 games left to save our season. we all need to get behind the manager and players and forget who is managing whom. I must admit if I was on £40-£70 grand a week the negativity off the fans would destroy me and I’d be worried about my staff in my million pound mansion, the guys who cleaned my Bentley and the personal shopper who helped me spend my thousands , id be gutted and unable to sleep at night

Without having read the rest of this thread to me this is the ultimate disregard from Hughes. His chance of success depends entirely on the failure of the ‘project’ he has been in charge of for 5 years. If that’s good news to him well thanks very much and I wish you had never been associated with my club. Interesting spin to put on ‘unemployed man takes job’...

It’s a shame he didn’t take over for our game. Might have galvanised a few of our players to go for the three points - prove a point to the ex-manager etc

That’s just how it goes. If you were saying it was time for a change for 3’years then you were saying it during the time we were playing some of the best football you’ll probably ever see from a Stoke team in the top flight. Which would be pretty daft in my opinion....

It's been obvious for the past two summer's that the team needed improving sadly the opposite happened and where we are now is the consequence of it . Very poor recruitment and misplaced loyalty to a manager who had stopped having a positive impact .

I presume when sacked by stoke we paid his contract up so in theory we are still paying him So to get paid twice for relegating stoke will be a nice earner if you can get it

Try ‘ unemployed multi millionaire shows no respect for person who gave him millions and every chance to succeed ‘. I know it’s ridiculous on my part but I would have thought that even in the moral vacuum that football is he might have let this season pass and then move on without potentially further damaging a very considerate former employer.

Personally if someone sacked me I wouldn't give them a moment's thought again, even if, like Hughes, I deserved it.

Hughes has no option but to go in hard at Southampton to ensure his “no relegation “ remains intact and to gain a new contract.
I’m pleased that Southampton have offered him a contract for only the next eight games.
Welcome to the world of the transient manager.

What bigger point than to keep Saints up at our expense. Considering the number of times he said what great employers the owners were I would have thought he had little or no motivation to rub their noses in it. It’s not often you can say this about a football club but SCFC really did everything they could to avoid getting shot of him.

I would ask all to say “Mark Hughes who the fuck is he, oh yes I vaguely remember him” Most will, but sadly a minority will be endeavouring to split this board by driving their agenda against the present employee.

After a period of foreign managers Hughes and his merrymen might represent enough of a ‘change’ to provide the said tweak.

Not sure it's done that particularly for West Ham, Everton or even Palace really. Not enough of one anyway. Not sure it's as simple as 'foreign' and 'not foreign' either. They've had an Argentine, a Dutchman, a Frenchman and another very different Argentine playing a very different style.

He hated Hughes because he wasn’t TFP. There were plenty like him including a bloke with a yellow van. In answer to the original point though we have been on a downward spiral since the LC SF at Anfield in Jan 16 and last season in particular had all of the warning signs you could possibly want of a manager and team that had lost its way bereft of energy, motivation and much of a plan. I like the fact that we haven’t got a trigger happy egotistical chairman but it would be better if he was quicker to see malaise and take action and action should have been taken the moment after the sorry sight of the team parading to a three quarter empty stadium after yet another thrashing in the last home game of last season. When Coates did finally take action it seems that little thought or preparation had been made in advance and it’s arguable whether or not we have ended up in a better position than we were in the first place with yet another British manager and one who hasn’t got the stature or record as good as the bloke he sacked. We need a reboot! BM

Good luck to him Southampton have a very good chance of getting to Wembley for an FA Cup semi final and maybe a final He may keep them in the Premiership Paul Lambert may steer us away from relegation All of those teams in the bottom 6 could be relying on others to lose, there are several games where there are “ 6 pointers “ so every team can’t lose all of their remaining fixtures It’s up to us to get enough points to finish out of the bottom 3, a new manager does bring a different approach, Southampton are hoping its a positive outcome for Hughes, we are putting our faith in Lambert No need to despise Hughes or Pulis Just support our current set up, they need us
