Meindl aren't that bad either. Had a pair for ages and just walked them to death.

I've still got a pair of Zamberlan shoes for over 30 years, did MLTB in them and much walking. Never let me down, Highly recommend them if you can find them. Now got some Anatom vibrant boots which are also good. I get all my stuff from Cotwolds. In my opinion the staff are knowledgeable, I go to either Chester or Deansgate. Some may say they're expensive but if you are a D of E leader ( or know one) you can get 20% discount

Had brasher and meindl before which were good but expensive. I've gone off walking boots now (too much fell running) so I prefer a shoe or something with a lot less ankle support.
I currently have timberland chocorua (an emergency purchase before a walking holiday in Nepal) and they've surprised me in lasting around 7 years so far. They're also nice and soft/flexible around the ankle which works for me.
What you really need though is a nice pair of inov8s and to run instead of walk :-)
If you find yourself in betws y coed have a look in the cotswolds outlet shop (it's the one at the end of town at the bottom of the hill). They usually have some good deals on old stock.
