- work on fitness, we don’t ever last 90 minutes. Bauer was the only one with energy in the 2nd half (and I include Allen in that) - bring back Bojan and Muniesa - move Wimmer on, Muni can take his place in the squad - play Shaq down the middle where he’s most effective. - coach Zouma and Shaq on protecting the ball and not giving it to the opposition every time - consider playing 2 strikers at home, Crouch is what Saido needs - sit Cameron in front of the CBs as a withdrawn midfielder. We need to be solid like we were under Pulis - sign a left back, someone with legs like Bauer - we need a goalscorer. We don’t have anyone who’s ever scored goals apart from Crouch (but he comes with his limitations) and Berahino ( many moons ago). Bring someone in like Pulis did with Beattie.
The squad is good enough to stay up, but it’s going to be close. He’s going to have to start work now, and not take his eye off it until the final whistle in May.

If we win as many points as there's been Lambert threads today, we'll be safe before the clocks go forward!

Leave Muni and Bojan where they are and I'd pretty much agree with that

Paul Lambert's first decision and probably crucial to his future is... Crouch, Diouf or Berahino.

Shopping list: 1. A left-back as good as Bauer 2. A central midfielder to replace Fletcher, who's a spent force 3. A 'wide' forward with real pace 4. A strong goalscoring striker
Go for it, PL!

People will disagree but if we get a decent left wing back in alongside a defensive midfield beast and a striker I still think 3 at the back is the way to go to get the best out of Shaqiri:
Butland
Zouma Shawcross Martins Indi
Bauer Allen NEW SIGNING NEW SIGNING
Shaqiri Choupo Moting
NEW SIGNING

I had thought Shaq in the middle in a free kind of role behind a number 10 (probably a new one) is a good move. Get Allen supporting them as well as the two wide men...
However seeing Bauer get up and down the flank did create space for Shaq to go inside as well, starting from a wide position.
But I think a bit of pace and strength is required as priority by the end of the window - it's what we desperately lack.
I think we have too many of the same kinds of players in the same side... plenty of lightweight players who want to seem to be comfortable on the ball and play it around... But nobody to complement that by making the runs in behind to make use of that

Without thinking about new signings, we need to start using the squad we have to better effect. We have some pace, but more often than not, sitting on the bench.
Butland
Bauer Shawcross Zouma Pieters
Allen Cameron
Choupo-Moting Shaqiri Ramadan
Diouf
Crouch needs to be a plan B always. Adam the same. I like Martins Indi but I think the consistent choice of Zouma and Ryan would be more fruitful.
New signings? DMC, LB, Fast winger. 3 should be more than possible... Sell? Johnson, loads of others, but we probably need as many options as we can get!

Spend all the dosh on a quality striker and a new left back to replace Pieters, and we stay up. It’s that simple!
Goals breeds confidence....

And how exactly would you "move Wimmer on"? 1. He has a contract. It is likely to be for far more than any other club would offer him. Would you be prepared to pay the difference for the life of that contract? 2. We paid £18 million to Spurs for him. How much do you think another club would be prepared to pay us for him? I suggest it would be much closer to the £4 million Spurs paid than the £18 million we paid. In a nutshell we are in the same position with Wimmer as we are with Imbula. We hugely overpaid for him and we pay him far more wages than he is worth. Either we take huges losses on their fees and wages (if we are lucky) or they go out on loan with us continuing to pay the bulk of their wages.

Wimmer is weak as pish. I would take a loss on the fee just to move him on and free up the wages. Awful, awful excuse for a centre back. More concerned about selfies with his Spurs mate than he is playing for Stoke. Would rather see big Phil play and that’s saying something.

If there's unlimited funds the squad should be looking to get to this for me:
------------------Butland------------------ -------------------Grant------------------- -------------------------------------------- Bauer----Shawcross---Indi-----Pieters-- Edwards--Zouma---Wimmer---New LB-- -------------------------------------------- -----------Allen-----New DM------------- ----------Fletcher---Cameron-------------- -------------------------------------------- Shaqiri---------Bojan-----------Choupo- New winger---Ireland--------Ramadan-- -------------------------------------------- -------------New Striker------------------ ---------------Berahino-------------------
New DM is the first priority. Mobile, strong and disciplined. In the mould of Geoff Cameron but with more quality. New winger could replace Choupo if good enough. New striker not first priority, but a pacey frontman would be great.
