Recent history shows we've pissed all over them for the past ten years. Not in attendances Stick another proffesional football club in the city and it would make a difference

Derby is a one club city isn't it, we share our city with another football league club, I think that more than explains any attendance shortfall.

Rowett has signed a new deal at Derby and there is no evidence to suggest we wanted him either. What more is there to say other than good luck to him in his career?

They have won more and, based on the past twenty years, they have (more times than not) pulled in bigger attendances than Stoke. That said, for four years between 2011 - 2014 we had higher average gates. You also need to consider we've been limited on the ground capacity front until last summer, otherwise we'd have probably equalled/eclipsed them here too.
In the mid-90s Stoke and Derby were pretty much level in terms of attendances before moving to bigger stadiums. Their average gate when they won promotion in 1996 was 14,327. They only started to push over the 20k mark for the first time since the late 70s following their move to Pride Park (also aided, as we were, by the attraction of top flight football). To Derby's credit, on the two occasions they've been relegated (2002 and 2008) they've not dropped back down to 15k gates. Instead they tend to sway between 23k and 29k. That's good going compared to several other clubs who've gone down and haemorrhaged supporters.
We've yet to see what hit our support would take if we do slip down a Division. The six years Derby spent in the top flight from 1997 to 2002, coupled with their stadium move, certainly helped them build up the fan base they have now. In that same time period we were relegated to Division Two and didn't have the same opportunity to grow. You'd hope that now we've emulated (and surpassed) Derby's earlier extended run in the top-flight our own attendances will continue at a similar level should we go down (hopefully we won't have to find out!)

We're better supported and have a better history than all but 4 English clubs but it doesn't make us a good side or squad ! Fantastic stat that is Staffs Villa but aren’t Newcastle, spurs, the hammers, chelsea, liverpool, united, city, arsenal, everton etc... better supported than you guys? Indeed they are, I didn't make it clear that I meant just the history mate

I hadn’t realised you’d never won the top flight or had any fa cup wins, you’re bottom of the league in the history stakes but who cares as you’re in the prem and Derby aren’t. Errrr, our League Cup in '72, Autoglass Trophy double, hatful of Staffordshire Senior Cups and Isle of Man Trophies, and the Uhren Cup as recently as last year says otherwise fella. And current Watney Cup holders.......cracking cup that is.

Are Stoke not currently the seventh or eighth longest serving top flight club?
In a couple of seasons I think we will have moved past Derby in terms of number of years in our history spent in the top flight?
Same sort of support base though I think Derby as a town mobilises all its support and once we have sorted out our current problems we will be eclipsing them on that front.
We are also an established premier league club?
Yep, derby fans are deluded

Don't really understand this thread. I'm from Meir and a Stoke fan since 1960. As far as I'm concerned, my club is the best club in the world and always will be. I don't give a shit what Man U, Liverpool, Derby etc, etc, etc win or don't win. I don't care what other fans think about my team.

The only reason they're better supported and are a "bigger club" is because they're a one team city. We have to have to share with that s#*@e up the road.

I love my club just like Derby fans love their club.
But truth is they are better supported than us. In 2007/8 they got relegated from the Premier, with a truely shocking record. Their home average attendance was around 32.5k despite their performance.
However we are in the Premier league for now so fuck em.

Its Derby COUNTY not city. The county of Derby has a population of over 1 million and only 2 teams. So their support is not that great really.

If you believe the Sentinel, Rowett was never our top target. If that is true (and I have no idea either way), Rowett and his agent played a blinder by getting their fans and board to shit themselves over a few paper rumours to win himself a big contract, and fair play to him. Derby fans will always talk up their club, but so will most fans of most clubs in the top two tiers of English; we're all bigger than the overwhelming majority of clubs in this country and the world itself. The fact they were terrified of losing Rowett should reveal how big they really are, though. THIS While they were measuring dicks they were very lucky we didn’t take their manager.

Derby and Wolverhampton are similar-sized connurbations to Stoke but both have the advantage of being one-club towns whereas we have the bottom-feeders of Burslem to share part of our potential supporter-base with. Derby County, by their name itself, attract a lot of support from the towns outside Derby, as they represent the larger county too. This would explain why they also get bigger crowds than Forest and Wolves.
As for trophies, they were lucky enough to have the genius of Clough, but if you boil everything down to trophies, Bury and Preston must be bigger than us or Middlesbrough then. And Forest must be bigger than Derby 😎
No denying that we've taken underachieving to a new level, but Derby certainly overachieved under Clough.
Derby will alway be the 'Eleven Pointers' too. I mean, that was truly pathetic. Stick the Fail in this league they'd eak out more points than that 🤣

There is little to choose between the clubs in terms of attendance.
In terms of success, they used to be really good thanks to Brian clough.
Derby have 65 top flight years we have just a few less.
However we have been in the top flight for a decade, they won't be in the top flight for many years to come.
All totally pointless, we are on top right now, so fuck them

Like Forest they were lucky to have Cloughie, apart from those times they are both nonentities in the modern era. Can't take that away but it's not going to happen again.

If they claim to be a bigger club with a better history and nicer grass and lovelier seats or whatever, just fucking say ‘okay, you win’ and lets get on with something that matters.
