I voted Karanka because 1) highly regarded at Middlebrough and they were very reluctant to sack him, and, as here at Stoke with Hughes, the owners wanted to see it out with him, but the fans turned against him. 2) good defensive coach; his problem at Middlesbrough was they couldn't get in any good strikers to score goals. We have more talented forwards than Middlesbrough had. 3) still young ambitious and will relate well with the players and motivate them as he did in Middlesbrough's promotion season.
I accept there are certain middle-aged British managers available and some are presently doing well at their new clubs, but I think that is purely short-lived impact of a new boss and will fizzle out. We need a new younger manager for the longer term who will fix the defence problems and build long term, with fresh ideas. We don't want "boring old farts".

We really need to drop this "Little old Stoke" mentality. We're a Premier League club, have been for ten years, and are known to have a Chairman who gives his managers plenty of time. He'd run here the second we got in touch with him. Rodgers, Rowett or Koeman for me.

Not 100% convinced he'd be tempted though. 5 wins out of the last 6, and now riding high in the Championship at a big club where he spent time as a player and get big crowds. He'll be on a decent wage. And he's only been there 9 months.

Would love Brendan Rogers or Gary rowett. Tbh if take any single one over Hughes just to break the awful stalemate we have at the moment.

Sure he 'might' get Derby promoted, but on the otherside of the coin he might fail & never get another chance to manage a top-flight club. He could come to Stoke, turn us around & get us into the top-half & suddenly everyone in the world knows who Gary Rowett is. Look at how everyone is now raving about Silva, and he failed to keep Hull up, but it still got him another Premier League job. No-one in their right mind would say "Nah, I'd prefer to stay in the obscurity of the Championship" when the bright lights of the Premier League come calling.

Glenn Hoddle comes across as an excellent coach, and didn't do too badly at Wolves. That was a long time ago though. How about Hoddle teaming up with someone else as a curveball?
I don't see why we wouldn't look appealing to Gary Rowett - a stable Premier League club only 6 points off the top 10. It'd be a tough choice at the very least. I'd probably go with him or Martin O'Neill for a safe pair of hands. I'm still hoping we go on a 5-game winning streak with Hughes, starting against West Brom, and consistently start to play better. Unlikely based on recent evidence, but I hope.
I'd trust the board if they thought someone like Graham Potter, or the lesser-fancied names, was up to it, but quite a few of the names above scare me.

Pearson has proved to be a psychopath when he’s under pressure. He’s a a PR nightmare.
Pulis struggles with solutions under negative pressure.
We deserve an intelligent, forward thinking leader. There’s only a handful in that list, and a handful not yet in it.
We need a manager who has led a squad at a higher level. A consideration would be the current players who would follow him and strengthen our team.

Its a long list and Lucien Favre still isn't on it. Why would he leave Nice though? He's got them winning again and qualified them for the next stage of the Europa? Maybe clutching at straws but he fancied a go at the Prem with Everton before they employed Koeman then joined Nice because Everton were stringing him along. Maybe if he got his chance he wouldn't fuck about and just take it but maybe that's strained logic but there is at least a thought process there.

A couple of Bielsa 'disciples' are available - not Poch or Pep obviously but Gallardo is out of contract at River Plate in January, and Matty Almeyda surely must be temptable. I know Gallardo is on PSG's radar but not a shoe in, Leicester had a look at Almeida but went for Puell. Both have knowledge of European football and no doubt would tempt one or two Argentines raised and fed on barbed wire and baked beans to add bite to our pussies. Anyone but the tried and failed circus, and I include Koeman on that - sacked/mutual consented by more clubs than I can recall and best suited to inherit a team - which he did at Southampton
