Win, draw or "unlucky" defeat and he's probably safe.
However for me we must win this game, plus Castle and West Brom*. That will ease the pressure and hopefully the start of some better performances. Clean sheet definitely needed on Saturday.f

Only a win against Burnley should've saved him
As far as I'm concerned he should've gone yesterday

Time for a demonstration if we lose? We need, really need to get behind the team. A demonstration would be extremely negative. I think Hughes is safe unless someone exceptional becomes available. Why does his replacement have to be exceptional ? The bloke sold huth nzonzi and arnautovic and bought in imbula berahino and wimmer That's ridiculous , that's like Mercedes letting Lewis Hamilton go and replacing him with my nan Anyone with a decent record would be fine by me

Surely only a win can save his skin on Saturday? The performance doesn't matter only the 3pts.I can't stand the thought of "we played well and deserved to win" being trotted out as an excuse. Nobody knows, if u ask Coates, he might tell you.

But it's the best squad we've ever had and we've modeled the club on "The Good Life" and that was cheap er successful.

The trouble is - for Sparky's sake as well as the club's - I don't think it's down to 'saving' his job any more so much as buying time week on week. Much like where we were before the Swansea game really, but the Wet Sham I'm seeing lately is a lot less bedraggled than Swansea, Saturday could be a good one to win not a nailed-on 3 points. To 'save' his job Sparky is going to have to revolutionise defensive tactics and his use of subs and deliver, consistently, for maybe the next 10 games. I'd love to believe there was a realistic chance of that - but honestly??

Hope I’m wrong but can’t see any way at all we’re going to get anything out of Saturday’s game or for that matter the WBA game if Hughes is still in charge.
For a start both clubs have new managers and both are starting to have a positive influence in their teams play and results. West Ham have started to look a decent well organised side with Moyes at the helm and their recent results have proved it. West Brom earned a draw at Liverpool which included their ‘Fab 4’ with a well organised defensive display. Could you imagine in your wildest dreams our motley crew of misfits going there and doing that? No neither can I!!
In comparison we are all over the place in terms of tactics and team selection, flavoured with a massive dose of no confidence and riddled with injuries in key positions.
It may be the season of good will and hope but all I can see at the moment is Santa’s empty sack I’m afraid (no, not that sort of sac!)

If we win he is safe If we perform well and lose he is safe If we get hammered he is safe I really don't think he will go I think the first two of the three is right, the third option will see him go. I'm hoping against hope for a couple of wins out of the next three games to give Hughes and the board a bit of time. I've lost faith in Hughes but he's still preferable to most of the options suggested by most on here.

Purely my opinion but I strongly believe Coates will stick it out with Hughes until the end of the season. Even if it becomes clear in a few months we face relegation. But there can be no doubt now that this is his final season in charge at Stoke. The summer will bring wholesale changes and I am looking forward to seeing them happen.

Coates will hold his nerve - let's face it, he runs the worlds largest gambling company. In the meantime, Pulis got five years, Hughes will have had five years. The five year review will be the same for Hughes as it was for Pulis - fabulous start, then it stopped working. And I think the conclusion he reaches will be the same - we need to change the manager to halt the decline. But it will be a managed process, not a knee-jerk reaction to something that hasn't happened yet.

What if, somehow, we pick it up and finish a respectable 10th, after one or two astute signings in January and he comes up with a new plan to move us forward? People suggesting Coates will persevere with Hughes and then dump him aren't factoring in the possibility (however slight) that we might get it together. Yes, we seem to be on a downward spiral and there's loads wrong, but look at the table and tell me that from a points point of view, we're doing as well, or badly, as a few others.

If we lose badly with a poor performance devoid of attitude and application he's a goner. If we lose with a positive and spirited performance that shows players are still on board, he'll survive 1st example Spurs away 2nd example Burnley away Liverpool at home Palace away Bournemouth at home Man Shitty away That's just this season, the list goes on!
