It's fantastic how a bunch of asthmatic cyclists can be so successful especially considering just how many of them were having attacks on the eve of competition. Fantastic effort lads Same as asthmatic runners. As I said earlier it’s not childhood asthma. It’s asthma brought on by the extremes they put their respiratory system through. I don't make any distinction between runners and cyclists. This stuff is only coming to light because they've banned some dodgy Russians at least our lot appear to be within the rules and guidance on TUES although there's now a big question mark on the ethics of use.
Do you feel uncomfortable watching this sport? I'm really struggling watching the athletics to the point I've given up.

I don't watch athletics anymore but I really do enjoy watching the cycling (as an ex-cyclist myself) whether it be TDF, Tour of Oman (other tours are available ) or one of the early season Spring Classic races. I happened to see the journalist David Walsh on GMTV (or whatever it's called) this morning with loudmouth Piers Morgan openly accusing Wiggins of cheating. This is the same David Walsh who spent a full year embedded in Team Sky around 2012/13, at Dave Brailsford's invitation, with an access all areas remit to investigate their ethics and workings both in theory and in practice, and concluded that they were indeed 100% clean and within the rules. Read "Inside Team Sky" for his full story. So here's somebody else who's either missed or overlooked something Sky were doing, or is possibly jumping on the bandwagon ? Or Sky were very clever at concealing their wrongdoings. I don't think Sky, Wiggins or Froome have broken the anti-doping rules, but they've most likely used the existing rules to their maximum to gain benefit, which no doubt other teams and riders are doing. Although within the rules this does go against Sky's "whiter than white" doctrine. It would be interesting to see the situation for the other World Tour teams.

You did make a distinction I don’t feel uncomfortable no. Watching any sport now there will be doping and eventually they get caught. Doping TUEs Cortisone injections to play a football match Are all the same imo You either compete less than 100% or you don’t compete Sport needs a 100% zero tolerance for the banned list. No grey areas no exploitation If rules can be stretched in any walk of life they will be. Sport no exception.

If as you say, extreme training is causing asthma, then surely the team doctors are being negligent in their care? A ban on asthma drugs would put the brakes on this extreme training as it would take an athlete over the edge and ruin a career.

Any problems with late onset asthma? Developed late onset asthma at the age of 32 went from relatively fit to having multiple stays in hospital and have had to take oral steroids for the last twenty years On a good day I only have to stop once when going upstairs This has made me think if I could get my consultant to give me that jab and I can go out and get a push bike

One of my friends got it in his mid 50s although it didn't seem to affect him that much. I think it curtailed his running a bit.
Have you thought about joining Team Sky. I would say you're a perfectly suitable candidate you'll be flying around France in weeks

If extreme training is causing asthma then they need a better way of treating it It is acknowledged by Doctors that the optimum medication for treating Asthma is not that what was administered to Wiggins. Make of that what you will. Alleged sloppy record keeping. The mule having no idea what he was delivering. Sky Team manager not knowing what his elite athletes are taking. Doc losing his computer...no back up records. Doc too sick to attend the hearing. Wiggins and his Coach disagreeing on when/where the medication was administered. ..and more.

Great to see the cycling calendar up and running again.
Tirreno-Adriatico has had some quality stages so far...if nothing else but to see Mosca constantly in the break and managing to piss everyone else off (apart from the green jersey chappy too - cant remember who). Quite a few bad crashes too - Cavendish yet again and then one of the Trek guys going over a "safety" barrier wasn't too clever and could have been much worse.
Paris-Nice a decent watch, but could do with a couple more of the big hitters. Seems like the main players are getting some Italy based events done in advance of Milano Sanremo and the Giro. I've signed up myself to do a Paris-Nice event next year, really looking forward to that!
Strade Bianche was just beautiful.
And what a number of events coming up too...the aforementioned Milano Sanremo, Volta a Catalunya I always like, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and La Doyenne too. Four of the monuments before we get to grand tour season. Proper bonertime!

I'm on hols in Lanzarote at the moment so I haven't seen any of Paris-Nice or TIrreno-Adriatico but I've got them recorded for when I get home.
Strade Bianche was a grueller this year wasn't it ? The conditions were definitely "difficult".
Looking forward to the season really getting going now.
Good luck on Mont Ventoux - Chapeau Salop !

It really doesnt sound good does it. Interesting too that the anti-doping laws are opposite to that we would usually expect, where the burden of proof is on the team/rider to prove their innocence. On that basis, I'm not sure what evidence there is (apart from the obvious personal denials and rebuttals) that there was no breach. For the good of the sport, I think they should strike off his victories.

Season is definitely in full flow now. Have enjoyed Tirreno this week and I think Kwia is such a classy bike rider.
Looking forward to MSR this week god knows who'll win it shame Gaviria is out with a broken hand.
Good luck on Ventoux Salop would love to ride it myself but looks like I'll be residing to riding it remotely for a while.

He’s jacked up accommodation and the les cingles entry fee for £75. All we got to do is get there. I’m driving with another lad to save the cost. The only other big events I’ve got this year is dragon (140 mile route) again in June. And through a work contact have managed to get on These www.opencycling.com/coast-to-coast-in-a-day/I’m doing wales in a day and c2c in a day as a chaperone so free And the usual couple of local sportives. Just need the weather to turn.

Have you done it before? been struggling for form the last few years after getting a dynamic hip screw fitted in late 2014 following a MTB crash. I've just invested in a Tacx Neo to give Zwift a try.

Just stick a film on or a gcn training video.

Just stick a film on or a gcn training video. I've only got an Elite Qubo turbo which is pretty much the cheapest option for a smart trainer and is zwift compatible. I wasnt really in position before Christmas to get a more expensive one. I enjoy zwift as it has a range of workouts and I like to track the metrics on there. In April though, I'll be able to get a 50% discount from Evans through my health insurance so will be investing in a better one with the direct drive train and one which can simulate steeper grades of climbs. The Elite does up to about 6%.

The season has got off to a great start with some really good races so far. Milan-San Remo, Paris-Nice, Tirreno-Adriatico, Strade Bianche have all been really good to watch.
Looking forward to the Northern Classics and then we're nearly ready for the Giro.
I think it could be more of an open contest in the Grand Tours this year with quite a few riders having realistic chances of winning them, just as long as it's not Quintana or Nibali. I'm still undecided about the new rule reducing the number of riders per team.
