249 mass shootings in the USA so far this year. That's a pretty damning fact by any standards.

Alejandro Bedoya scored in the MLS and used the opportunity to call for gun control. Good for him! The MLS has decided not to punish him for the polite message.
It's not really a surprise because soccer has always had a leftist bent in the United States.

A chicago hospital A&E stopped taking in people at the weekend after 40 shootings as they were overloaded, it wasnt a mass shooting though, just individual shootings so it doesnt make the mass shooting list !

The right wingers love their guns. It's like a religion to them. It allows them to compensate for their lack of manhood.

Amazing that easier access to firearms isn’t the cause behind mass shooting. Glad I have been informed that as I play video games or if I develop a mental illness I’m more likely to kill people with a high powered rifle than anybody else. 👍

I think it's a none political issue . for teenage sociopaths to have access to assault weapons in a modern supposedly civilised country is way beyond politics . These weapons are a threat to all. 5 more dead, 5 more families having to deal with this atrocity. From the article: "It comes a week before Congress reconvenes and just one day before Texas is set to ease some gun restrictions, making it easier to carry handguns in churches and schools." Well, that seems like a sensible solution.

Not sure if I’ve said this before on here, I drove through Texas over a couple of weeks in 1994, the year of the World Cup there, we stayed at campsites and met a family at one who were very hospitable. We had a bbq with them and after a few beers, the dad commented that , with no offence meant, he and his friends were pleased Engkand hadn’t qualified as they didn’t want to suffer the blight of the terrible English football hooligans on US soil. A few more beers later, we got on the subject of guns, he proudly called his 2 teen sons over and got them to tell me how he’d taught them t8 shoot from an early age . I asked a few Qs where they said they shot animals quite a bit and then casually dropped in “and of course dads told us we’re to shoot any Mexicans that come on our land”.
Frightening how casual the comment was, but in southern states, the amount of NRA bumper stickers and hats etc was astonishing. Terribly sad news yet again today, but suspect nothing will change.

Loving the”didn’t want to suffer English hooligans” line on their soil, whilst they sponsored the IRA through Noraid so we had to suffer terrorism on our soil. I’m not surprised about their bonkers & ignorant comments. The Yanks have done more than most to fetishise humanity & thats bound to £@#& up the software. “Will not compute”

In Sweden we don't have that many mass shootings ... yet.
But they shot an innocent swedish woman (a doctor) piecefully walking down the street in Malmö in the back of the head this week, while carrying the two months little one in her hands!
And the other day some shot into an appartment in Stockholm, killing an 18 year old female white swedish student.
At first they thought it had to do with racism, but no ...

It's a cultural thing for Americans. Been to the States a number of times and gun owners will say things like "God created man but Samuel Colt made all men equal"... Gun ownership is also enshrined in the 2nd amendment with "Shall not be Infringed". I think the reasoning goes along the lines of every free man has a right to protect himself his family and his property from those who wish him harm. Also to bear arms against a tyrannical government or enemies foreign or domestic.... something along those lines anyway.... It is what it is I guess and easy for us to judge.... There are millions of firearms in the US so good luck trying to get law abiding citizens to give them up. Not defending guns just that's how it is in the good ole US of A

I could doubtless have purchased an assault rifle from the lady though lol

I was refused alcohol in a shop as my UK passport was deemed not acceptable ID as “but it’s not an American drivers license” . I could doubtless have purchased an assault rifle from the lady though lol So that UK passport allowed you to come in to the USA, but not to buy alcohol there? 🤔 I have a question: It's about the common question "Business or pleasure?" I didn't go this year, but possibly next year. And I plan to visit a conference where I hopefully can collect information and knowledge, and then be able to transform that knowledge into products and earnings through inspiration. That's the whole point with arranged conference. But I won't plan to work IN the USA. :Is this business or pleasure? Do I need work permit? And if they ask me to work, and I do even if I had no intentions of doing so when I got there - how fast can I get a work permission, or can I work for a week without it? The work I talk about here is performing songs. It was an isolated alcohol refusal , again in Texas! Your question is, I suggest, one for the US embassy where you live, but sounds like pleasure would cover conference attendance?
