WTF is Huddy gonna do when Wishy Washy gets in, and takes incompetence to a new level. Hope he will take a fair and balanced approach and expose them also. Though I think, like all Labourites, he will spend the first term in office blaming everything on the Tories In fairness to Huddy and Prestwich, they've both suggested they think Starmer is a liar who is shit so credit where its due 😊

Here he is... The oatcake's voice of the liberal (illiberal) left rushing in to save his mate from further humiliation. Well, wouldn't it be great if we saw Big Ricky Tice do just that? He's going to need a certain Big Nige to help if that's going to happen. Wouldn't it be even better if, as threatened, Big Nige seizes control of the Tory party and becomes a feasible candidate for PM? Now I would pay good money to see the reaction of you and your well to do, liberal comrades if that day were to ever come to fruition.😊 I suspect you and Ely will pipe down a lot in fairness once we get into the Starmer reign and it becomes apparent he's a disaster. Please show me where I've said I'm a fan of Starmer, cheers. Why do you keep making stuff up about me? I've not remotely suggested you're a fan of Starmer (yet again making stuff up 😊) but I think based on your political persuasion, it's reasonable to suggest you will be a lot quieter and less critical of a failing Starmer government than you are of the incumbent. Happy to be proven wrong!

If you'd been on this board for as long as you claimed to have been, you'd know I'm equally critical of Starmer. Either that or you're just plain stupid.

Happy to be proven wrong! If the next government turns out to be as corrupt, inept and self serving as this lot I'll be equally critical, rest assured. I will give them some leeway as far as getting the country back on something like an even keel tho, they will have 13 years worth of corruption and incompetence to deal with. I didn't remotely suggest you were a fan of Liz Truss, I just playfully suggested she was 'your mate' 😉

The problem is the main stream media don't report on it. Unless the tory media paymasters are going to report the extent of it to the masses then it doesn't really mean much because the average person isn't aware.

Lisa Nandy is not one of them To be fair it wasn't me who I introduced Labour/Starmer into the conversation today. It seemed more appropriate to stick it here, as that was where the conversation had turned, than on the Israel thread, if that's what you're getting at.

Making it increasingly difficult for me to vote for them at the next election (although I've always voted Labour), spineless cowards ... This is all stuff coming from the top (Mr Starmer) in my opinion. Nandy is well intentioned anytime I've seen her speak in the past. This is very much Starmer telling the MPs to hold this position in my eyes. A bit like he did with the union strikes too.

While I categorically agree with you on the moral front, the fact is if she answered Yes to that question, the whole MSM would be writing Labour off as Anti-Semitic and Labour would go down the same hell hole as Corbyn. I'm not saying that is right, nor that this would equate to the Corbyn situation but that is how politics is currently working in our country. We are in a fucking mess politically. Anyone who just says what they think and is ready to go with it gets ejected from the whole process, see Rory Stewart, Corbyn, Bridgen etc, etc (that is not to say I'm backing any of these btw) I was listening to an interview with Stewart yesterday and he was saying he wouldn't advise anyone he remotely cared for to go anywhere near politics in this country. It's a complete dead end if you have any human values. Thats the place we are at. The only way in at the moment seems to be the spineless route and that is a disaster for this country. the political choice is dire.

Thats what happens when you don’t have a representative voting system. Have a look at the USA where their system is even worse and less democratic than ours! We need an independent regulator for MPs and ministers with powers to ban from ever holding public office for lies or corruption. We need a representative voting system.

I have more respect for someone who believes Israel is right/unions suck and acts accordingly than someone who doesn’t, but acts the same anyways.

My point would be there is little scope for MPS standing up for the beliefs anymore and sustaining a political career. Its pretty obvious that standing up for beliefs outside the 'party line' are a good way to cut your political career short. Rory Stewart's book is pretty damning of the system in that respect and he was very loyal to the party line, but as soon as he even thought about stepping out of synch it was basically made clear top him that he would be a gonner and there is no way back for him (unless he severely compromised his beliefs) and that is someone who is engaged with politics, independent minded and would definitely have something to offer. But I would further argue that party lines are based on policies which attract the least bad press, or least risk policies.

However, you don’t just vote for a party, you vote for an MP within that party. What’s the point in voting for an MP if all you are doing is voting for Starmer or Rishi? We may as well just vote for one person and have them decide all of the picks after the election if that’s the case. It would save a lot of taxpayer money. MPs, in general, should have beliefs that largely fall in line with the Party. However, they shouldn’t just be mindless drones. If all they are there to do is pick up a paycheck then they shouldn’t be there or at least, should be paid minimum wage.

The French have an extensive detailed lists of things you can't do when in office, every representative is handed it when taking office, there's no ambiguity whatsoever It's not in any way difficult to implement

I think it’s a shame that people at the extremes of Tory and Labour don’t sit down together and figure out a way to represent their constituents. In the US, there is a two party only system. AOC shouldn’t be in the same party as Biden. Jim Jordan shouldn’t be in the same party as McConnell or Romney. They stay there because otherwise they dilute the left/right vote. Wouldn’t it just be nice if the leaders of these further left/right elements sat down together and decided that they would both break away. In the past, they’ve been fearful to do so but if both sides do it at the same time, they can provide more options to the electorate without necessarily weakening their party. Seems like a common sense solution to me. As such, it will probably never get adopted.

To be fair to the pair of you, you did use to refer to Liz Truss as "the most credible option"  so that's probably why Ely referred to her being your mate. And to be fair to you, Bianco, it was in reference to other equally appalling candidates at the time! But, overall, I think your consideration of Kwarteng's (and Truss's) approach to economics as "one of the best speeches heard in parliament for years" ahead of the £30bn hole which it punched in the public finances and the BoE having to step in to prevent further financial chaos wasn't your finest moment Maybe, Big Ricky Tice will storm to victory? He's vowed this weekend to smash the Tories apparently, so you never know. Perhaps bring in Laurence Fox as chancellor? Here he is... The oatcake's voice of the liberal (illiberal) left rushing in to save his mate from further humiliation. Well, wouldn't it be great if we saw Big Ricky Tice do just that? Presumably you'll just continue to blame the Tory's 13 years of failure. Big Ricky Tice, Laurence Fox, DeSantis, Farage...you never know, one of your faves might get elected one day...😄
