What do we reckon once Gray's report is out there...
"I've already apologised, I'm changing the culture (which I oversaw) in Downing St, nothing more to see, get over it, shut up and move on, record-breaking employment levels (lie), fastest growing economy in G7 (lie), there's a war on you know..." something like that?

Any photographs published through the Gray Report will no doubt be used by the Parliamentary Standards Committee. If the report is utterly damning it’s hard to see how Boris come out of that without a potential leadership challenge. Im more bothered about what the 1922 Cttee says once it’s out there. Boris Johnson is a liar. That much we already know.

For me the biggest issue is the apparent drinking culture at work. These people are meant to be running our country ffs. It’s just been on the news that some whistleblowers are now coming forward, one said she regularly arrived in the morning to find rubbish bins stuffed with empty wine bottle. It’s nuts.

Interest rates on debts are not irrelevant. If they exceed your monthly repayments, you never can get to a point where your monthly income is unencumbered by debt repayments. Particularly when costs are soaring, people need every penny they earn. Boris must resign for lying to Parliament (he obviously won’t). I for one hope he clings to power as he is toxic to the tory brand and he won’t win the next election if he is in charge. Are you sure? Loads of people out there who simply don't care what he does or how his government performs or perhaps even how it affects them, provided their side wins. Two and a half years to go...you can't see anything suddenly becoming competent with this lot, but does that actually matter for those folk? That’s naive. The public who don’t care, as you put it, have already dished out a bloody nose during the local elections which - despite every Tory’s best attempts, was a horrific result. If the allegations get more severe and (even worse) the IOPC force the Met to re-examine the whole thing, whilst I personally think Boris should stay (just to nail on defeat at the next election) chances are the Tories will engineer a leadership challenge to ensure they have the best chance of retaining power. Ultimately, the Conservative Party isn’t interested in people - it’s interest in power and keeping it once it has it.

The Met aren’t coming out of this well at all.

Indeed....a thoroughly pissed off bunch of junior civil servants have decided to spill the beans, having noticed that their seniors appear to have got away scot free. It stinks of corrupt practice between the met and senior civil servants and ministers.

Imagine the state of the economy come the next election if he stays in power for another 2 and a half years. The most economically damaging, anti business, pro state intervention, incompetent, deceitful government of our lifetime.

But what will change in replacing him Truss, Sunak and Co? The entire Parliamentary Conservative Party is build on the foundation of Brexit, Flag Shagging and Penis'. All aided and abetted by supine media and apathy in the country. Let him carry the can in 2024.

30 years pay attention and the interest rate is irrelevant how much you earn is the key part that determines repayments.... So the rules are Boris must resign despite the police issuing no FPN but Keith only has to resign if he gets a FPN yeah ok, all the stop brexit loons are howling at the moon again..... Interest rates on debts are not irrelevant. If they exceed your monthly repayments, you never can get to a point where your monthly income is unencumbered by debt repayments. They are irrelevant even on your proposed 3% above base only those earning more than £46k start to reduce their loan balance, 40% approx of people dont ever fully repay the loans. There will not be a going back to free university for all that would require a major increase in taxation for everyone, any other changes would require some sort of means testing the cut off would be well below your claimed earnings.

The main problem is that in the absence of a Codified Constitution (unlike US which was able place some checks on Trump for instance) the UK relies on "Good Chaps (and Chapess's) and The Ministerial Code which The PM is the sole arbiter to do the right thing.
When he himself and others in Cabinet (Patel) can break the Code with impunity you end up with a rogue Government
Whether you are waving a Red or Blue flag this precedent is alarming as to what an even more extreme Left or Right PM might do in the future
At some point hopefully in the near future a Body similar to the IOPC must be established as we can no longer allow MPs to mark their own homework as it were

Paying a debt for 30 years from your monthly net salary is not irrelevant. The fact it then gets written off highlights the ridiculousness of the current system. Who pays for that written off debt? The tax payer! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9753557/amp/Almost-10-billion-paid-student-loans-2020-written-off.htmlSo that completely undermines Partick’s argument that poor tax payers should contribute towards student debts. They already do! In my system, the richest people would contribute more. Changing the interest rate and means testing to subsidise poorer students would be good for society. It would benefit me in my situation because then any student debt my children have would incur less interest and could be repaid.

The current system has far higher interest than in my day. So you would be paying it back for years, even with high income. You and partick obviously prefer a situation where university is reserved for the rich only. That’s your opinion. But it means poor people (and those like myself who cannot afford to cover tuition fees) lose out again, as they won’t be able to afford to go to university whereas those with rich parents can. Unless the system changes, I will never be able to afford to send my 3 kids to uni despite them being the children of two lawyers who earn well. Income is almost irrelevant compared to capital wealth these days which means there is very low social mobility. Tax is all about creating opportunities and providing services to those who need it. Wealthy people can easily afford to pay more tax. Have a look at the Sunday Times rich list. If they all had half their wealth they would still never have to think about money. Nor will their children, or their children’s children. Regardless as to whether or not the future generations choose to work. Well, there we have it. You’re fucking minted and you expect poor people to fund your family’s higher education. Let’s face it, only someone earning £100k + would have the brass neck to say income is almost irrelevant. Morally bankrupt. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9753557/amp/Almost-10-billion-paid-student-loans-2020-written-off.htmlSo under your preferred system (the current arrangement), the tax payer (including poor people) pay student debt. Under my system, the richest would contribute much more towards student debt, leaving less for poorer tax payers to pay. If I am morally bankrupt for wanting the rich to pick up more of the bill than the poor, what are you for wanting the opposite? Your logic for objecting to my reasoning to changing the student loan system has been blown out of the water.

The current system is just a hang over from the days when politicians were all Gentlemen and a Gentleman's word was his bond. Evidently it's as outdated and unfit for purpose as our electoral system as a while, and allows someone without scruples, like Johnson, free rein to act as he sees fit, provided the 300 odd colleagues who owe their seat to him put that above doing the decent thing. It's another example of the semi-feudal socially rigid society we live in.
