We're now going to pay farmers to retire apparently This magic money tree the Tories used to criticise Labour's spending plans is impressive, apart from when it comes to paying nurses. Most farmers are asset rich, why do they need to have even more public money thrown at them to bugger off? Oh yes, most vote Tory and for Brexit... .

If you did you might find the answers to your questions. Try here, UK government to pay older farmers to retire

I wonder whether playing this in the guise of greening agriculture is really an acknowledgement that agriculture will have to shrink post Brexit, especially in light of the kind of free trade deals we're now lining up with Australia, which farmers are already saying will put them out of business. A nice (if expensive, and ironically not very free market compliant!) way out of this self inflicted mess.

Ah, but imagine how bad our European high death toll and biggest economic hit would've been, if anyone else had been in charge and be grateful.

A nice (if expensive, and ironically not very free market compliant!) way out of this self inflicted mess. I’m struggling with your comments on farming today. Are you suggesting we continue as we were doing - which is possible. Or do we want to change something. And if so, what do we change. What I’ve seen proposed today seems quite reasonable and certainly an improvement on the practices arising from being part of the EU Common Agricultural Policy.

Suggest you look again. I can’t make my mind up as to whether this is a good attempt at fixing problems in the rail system or just a sleight of hand with nothing much changing beyond a rebranding of Network Rail. It certainly isn’t the privatisation envisaged by Corbyn and co.

It looks like the London buses model, operators paid to operate services, where the ticket money goes to tfl, they wont pay franchise fees so then wont be under pressure to recover these fees via increased ticket prices.

I'm not even sure why they bother to do this. Surely a more appropriate response would be "yeah, we know we fucked it up, but we also know you'll keep voting for us, so here you go, it doesn't really matter, does it".
