But I suspect the answer is taking as long as they can over it in the hope that any evidence mysteriously disappears/the accuser can be bought off investigating thoroughly.

It is quite amazing how stories of Government profligacy and sleaze around PPE and other Covid related contracts have become so normal that they barely raise more concern than a shrug these days.

It is quite amazing how stories of Government profligacy and sleaze around PPE and other Covid related contracts have become so normal that they barely raise more concern than a shrug these days. Not really. Normal public sector procurement procedures for the amounts needed to respond to the COVID crisis would have taken too long. I’m guessing OJEU no longer applies as we have left the EU but it’s a good indicator of what is usual with public sector tenders. Without the safeguards these systems put in and with speed being of the essence, I’ve no doubt there will be a litany of procurement horror stories. It’s good that PAC looks at these and figures out what is excusable and what is culpable as well as what lessons can be learned. So, hopefully we’ll see some considered analysis of what happened as opposed to a witch hunt. This applies to Westminster and Holyrood.

Corrupt bastards.

If and when its confirmed that they have taken backhanders I'll add the word corrupt even though its looks that way now given the evidence in the press and the national audit office

You do realise this practice has been going on between industry and government since the year 'dot' dont you? So that makes it okay then does it? For clarity and not to begin a slanging match I agree with you - it stinks. As does the shambles, incompetence and corrupt practices of the last 20 government sittings. Its only because of social media that these issues are being put under the microscope and dissected to the absolute maximum. And will it carry on for the next 20 government sittings? I think you know the answer to that one already foster. I really never knew there were so many naive people around.

But wherever people get caught and whenever possible, they should be held to account.

Oh absolutely..... the galling thing though is, when these people elected by the UK people DO step out of line, what are the consequences for them? The average joe in the street goes to jail for a few years corrupt practices. The politicians ? a fine - which lets face it makes fuck all difference to their bank balance. Im probably simplyfying things far tooo much here but thats how it feels to me anyway. The law is in place for a reason and should in my opinion be carried out to the letter of the law regardless of what status you carry or party you are representing. The ironic thing - or perhaps much more important question is this; If we both acknowledge that it sucks and has been going on for yonks and yonks, shouldnt there be a massive judicial overhaul and re-think of punishments given out which reflect the crime and subsequently applied to ALL people regardless of stature? (I fell much better getting that off my chest..... this sitting at home is driving me bonkers)
