Well done the Coates family. Makes you proud to be part of this great club. Not that I've ever been anything else, but this gesture is typical of the warm-heartedness of many Stokies and the entrepreneurs who have made their living here over the centuries. Each morning I take my dog for a walk at Queen's Park in Longton and it only exists because of people like the Coates family from the past. OS. Indeed, the only difference being that the Coates familes riches were self made and Queens Park I believe was donated by the Duke of Sutherland whose wealth was inherited, a grand gesture nonetheless. Yes indeed, The Duke of Sutherland did donate the land to the people of Longton to be used as a park, but it was John Aynsley of Aynsley China who, in 1888, paid for the layout, which cost a considerable amount of money. OS.

OS. I never knew that, and my mother worked at Aynsleys for about 30 years . Spent half my childhood at that Park.
